Job summary

APA is seeking a Senior Grid Connections Engineer in Perth, WA, for a permanent full-time role within our Power & Electricity Transmission team. You will deliver grid connection solutions, manage GPS/GMP, and coordinate with NSPs to ensure compliant, reliable assets.

You will interpret NER/ESM rules, engage AEMO/NSPs, and drive safety, quality and continuous improvement across APA's projects and operations.

Qualifications

  • A tertiary qualification in Electrical Engineering.
  • Experience with grid-connected installations and transmission systems.
  • Familiarity with regulatory frameworks such as NER, ESM Rules, and Australian standards.
  • Exposure to DIgSILENT PowerFactory or PSS/E and liaison with AEMO/NSPs.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management.
  • Safety, quality and continuous improvement mindset.

Responsibilities

  • Support and deliver grid connection activities for power generation assets, including new and existing connections, alterations, disconnections and R1/R2 testing.
  • Develop and maintain Generator Performance Standards (GPS), Generator Monitoring Plans (GMP) and associated compliance requirements.
  • Prepare and manage Relevant Generator Modification (RGM) submissions as per regulatory framework in the WEM.
  • Support the technical compliance of power assets across the NEM, WEM, NWPS and NWIS, as applicable.
  • Build collaborative relationships with Network Service Providers (NSPs) to support connection agreements, technical requirements and practical connection solutions.
  • Monitor generator performance and compliance data, identify emerging trends and work with stakeholders to resolve technical issues.
  • Share your grid connection and embedded generation expertise across projects, Operations and Commercial teams, while contributing to the continuous improvement of APA's processes and systems.

We now have an exciting opportunity available for a Senior Grid Connections Engineer to join us in our Power & Electricity Transmission team in Perth, WA on a Permanent Full Time basis.

Reporting to the Engineering Grid Connections Manager, you will play a key role in delivering customer-focused grid connection solutions, bringing a value-add mindset that supports operational excellence across APA's facilities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support and deliver grid connection activities for power generation assets, including new and existing connections, alterations, disconnections and R1/R2 testing.

Your background
  • A tertiary qualification in Electrical Engineering or a related engineering discipline, with eligibility for Engineers Australia membership or equivalent experience.
  • Experience working with grid-connected electrical installations, power generation or transmission systems, with exposure to grid connection management and compliance.
  • Knowledge of - or the ability to confidently interpret - relevant regulatory frameworks, such as National Electricity Rules (NER), ESM Rules, and Australian standards.
  • Experience or exposure to areas such as generator performance standards, compliance testing (e.g., R1/R2 processes), grid connection modelling (DIgSILENT PowerFactory, PSS/E or similar), or direct liaison and negotiation with AEMO/NSPs is highly regarded, though similar or transferable experience is also welcome.
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills, with the confidence to collaborate with a range of technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • A collaborative and curious approach, with sound technical judgement and a commitment to safety, quality, compliance and continuous improvement.
