Job summary

Jemena is seeking a Senior GIS Developer to provide development and system administration support across spatial applications, interfaces, and tools. You will partner with stakeholders and fellow developers to deliver high-quality GIS solutions that improve field work and organisational operations.

The role balances technical development, stakeholder engagement and continuous improvement for practical, real-world outcomes, with a collaborative team culture and safety focus.

Qualifications

• Degree in Software Development, Computer Science, IT, GIS or related discipline (or nearing graduation).
• Experience analysing, designing and supporting complex IT systems.
• Knowledge of Smallworld GIS or enterprise GIS platforms.
• Experience with object-oriented programming (Java, Python) and web tech (HTML, JS, Node.js).
• Database experience with PostgreSQL/VDMS and integration development.
• Familiarity with Git and ITIL/change-management practices.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving and communication skills.

About the Role

As a Senior GIS Developer, you'll provide technical development and system administration support across our spatial applications, integrations, interfaces, and tools. What You'll Be Doing

• Collaborate with business users to understand requirements and deliver practical GIS solutions.
• Design, develop, enhance and support enterprise GIS applications and integrations.
• Maintain and improve spatial systems, interfaces, reports and development tools.
• Contribute to the full software development lifecycle, from analysis through to implementation and support.
• Produce clear technical documentation aligned with architectural and development standards.
• Work within change management, security and governance frameworks.
• Support project delivery by working closely with developers, project managers and business stakeholders.
• Help identify opportunities to improve system performance, usability and operational efficiency.

What You'll Bring

We're looking for someone who enjoys working with others, is curious by nature, and takes pride in delivering quality outcomes.

You'll ideally have:

• A degree in Software Development, Computer Science, Information Technology, GIS or a related discipline (or be nearing graduation).
• Experience analysing, designing and supporting complex IT systems.
• Knowledge of Smallworld GIS or enterprise GIS platforms.
• Experience with object-oriented programming such as Magik, Java or Python.
• Experience with web technologies including HTML, JavaScript and Node.js.
• Database experience, particularly PostgreSQL and/or VDMS.
• Integration development experience.
• Familiarity with Git or other source control tools.
• Understanding of software development lifecycle methodologies, ITIL and change management practices.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving capability.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• The ability to build positive working relationships across technical and business teams.

Experience within electricity, gas or utilities is highly regarded but not essential.
