Job summary

The Department of Employment and Workplace Relations is seeking an EL1 Software Engineer (Full Stack Developer) to provide technical leadership within a multidisciplinary Agile delivery team and support the delivery of critical digital products and services.

The role covers the full software development lifecycle, mentors team members, collaborates with stakeholders, and helps ensure timely delivery of reliable and sustainable digital services.

Qualifications

• Lead the design, development and maintenance of enterprise applications and digital services.
• Develop high‑quality, secure code with emphasis on maintainability and compliance.
• Provide technical leadership to developers within multidisciplinary Agile teams.

Responsibilities

• Leading the design, development, enhancement and maintenance of enterprise applications and digital services.
• Developing and maintaining code of high standards, looking into maintainability, security and compliance with departmental frameworks.
• Providing technical leadership and guidance to developers within multidisciplinary Agile delivery teams.
• Participating in technical requirements analysis, solution design, estimation and architectural discussions to ensure solutions align with departmental standards and business objectives.
• Reviewing software designs, code and technical documentation to ensure quality, maintainability, security and compliance with departmental frameworks.
• Developing and maintaining CI/CD pipelines, automated testing and DevOps practices to support efficient software delivery.
• Managing complex technical issues and providing expert advice and recommendations to stakeholders and senior management.
• Mentoring and supporting less experienced developers, promoting knowledge transfer and continuous improvement practices.
• Contributing to delivery planning, risk management, technical decision-making and the adoption of emerging technologies, including appropriate and responsible use of AI-enabled development tools.
