Job summary

Canva's Web Engine team in Sydney is seeking a senior engineer to integrate the next generation video engine into web playback, collaborate with product and platform teams, and help deliver high-performance video experiences across browsers.

This 12-month fixed-term contract offers hybrid work from our Sydney campus, with remote options, and a culture that values experimentation, performance, and collaboration.

Qualifications

• Strong systems-level JavaScript expertise for web-scale playback.
• Experience building video, audio, graphics, or game-like systems in the browser.
• Understanding of rendering pipelines, frame timing, animation, or compositor-style architectures.
• Ability to own ambiguous problems and deliver end-to-end technical results.

Responsibilities

• Integrate Canva’s next generation native video engine into WEB.
• Design and evolve core architecture for scalable web playback.
• Build performance-critical systems beyond typical frontend abstractions.
• Drive resilient rendering and playback across browsers and devices.
• Partner with product, editor, and platform teams to deliver playback as a shared capability.
• Improve playback quality, observability, and reliability for millions of users.
