Job description

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Senior FP&A Expert – Financial Task Design and Evaluation based in Australia.

We are seeking an experienced Financial Planning & Analysis professional to contribute to an innovative AI evaluation project focused on complex financial workflows and business decision-making. In this role, you will leverage your expertise in financial modelling, budgeting, forecasting, and corporate finance to design realistic business scenarios and analytical tasks. You will develop detailed reference solutions and assess AI-generated financial models and recommendations against professional standards. Working independently, you will help identify financial inaccuracies, challenge assumptions, and establish robust evaluation criteria. This is a flexible, fully remote, project-based opportunity to apply your financial expertise while contributing to the development and evaluation of advanced AI systems.

Accountabilities:
  • Design realistic FP&A tasks and business scenarios reflecting complex financial planning, forecasting, and corporate decision-making processes.
  • Develop comprehensive financial models and reference solutions using Excel, ensuring transparent formulas, documented assumptions, scenario analysis, and consistency checks.
  • Create practical exercises covering core FP&A activities, including annual budgeting, rolling forecasts, variance analysis, headcount planning, and investment evaluations.
  • Build and assess integrated financial analyses incorporating income statements, balance sheets, cash flow forecasts, working capital, liquidity, and other relevant financial indicators.
  • Develop complex business scenarios using multiple information sources, including spreadsheets, contracts, emails, management presentations, and other financial documentation.
  • Review and evaluate AI-generated financial models, analyses, and recommendations for technical accuracy, financial consistency, completeness, and practical business relevance.
  • Identify material financial errors, unsupported assumptions, inconsistencies, calculation issues, and weaknesses in financial models or business conclusions.
  • Establish clear evaluation frameworks and acceptance criteria while recognising reasonable alternative financial methodologies and assumptions.
  • Prepare precise task instructions, reference answers, and concise executive-level explanations that accurately communicate financial findings.
  • Apply structured evaluation guidelines consistently and provide clear, evidence-based justifications for assessment decisions.
  • Contribute professional FP&A knowledge to the development of challenging financial benchmarks designed to measure the ability of AI systems to perform complex finance-related tasks.
Requirements:
  • At least 5 years of relevant professional experience in Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A), corporate finance, finance business partnering, or a closely related discipline, or equivalent demonstrated expertise.
  • Advanced Excel skills and strong financial modelling capabilities, including building, reviewing, and auditing complex financial models with transparent formulas and well-documented assumptions.
  • Practical experience managing or supporting financial planning processes, including operating budgets, rolling forecasts, variance analysis, headcount planning, and investment evaluations.
  • Strong understanding of financial statements and accounting principles, including income statements, balance sheets, cash flow statements, working capital, liquidity, and debt covenants.
  • Proven ability to build scenario-based financial models, evaluate different business assumptions, and assess their impact on financial performance.
  • Experience reconciling complex or conflicting financial information across spreadsheets, contracts, business documents, and management reports.
  • Excellent analytical and critical-thinking skills, with the ability to identify material financial errors, flawed assumptions, inconsistencies, and unsupported conclusions.
  • Ability to assess the quality and accuracy of financial analyses, recognise valid alternative methodologies, and establish clear evaluation standards.
  • Excellent written English communication skills, with the ability to prepare detailed task instructions, structured financial explanations, and concise executive-level reports.
  • Exceptional attention to detail, combined with the ability to follow structured evaluation guidelines and exercise independent professional judgment.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience working in software, technology, or SaaS businesses, particularly with annual recurring revenue (ARR), customer retention, gross margin analysis, and subscription-based financial planning.
  • Experience in financial model auditing, quality assurance, or reviewing financial deliverables prepared by other professionals.
  • Previous exposure to AI evaluation projects, benchmark development, or the design of structured analytical assessments.
  • Experience presenting financial analyses, business cases, and recommendations to senior management or executive stakeholders.
Benefits:
  • Competitive compensation: USD 400 per successfully completed and accepted task, with an estimated completion time of 5–6 hours per task.
  • Indicative hourly compensation of approximately USD 67–80, depending on the actual time required to complete each task.
  • Fully remote working arrangement, allowing you to work from anywhere.
  • Flexible working hours, with the freedom to organise your schedule around project requirements.
  • Part‑time, freelance, and independent contractor engagement.
  • Opportunity to contribute to the evaluation and development of cutting‑edge AI systems focused on complex financial analysis and business decision-making.
