Job summary

VECRA seeks a senior FOI Officer to assist the Manager, FOI & Privacy with timely FOI service delivery under the Commonwealth FOI Act 1982. The role involves processing complex requests, promoting document release and guiding decisions, with emphasis on accuracy and defensible outcomes.

Ideal candidates will have extensive FOI experience, strong stakeholder engagement, and the ability to operate with autonomy within a governance framework of VECRA in Victoria.

Qualifications

• Demonstrated experience interpreting and applying the Freedom of Information Act 1982 (Cth) and associated guidance material.
• Experience managing complex and sensitive FOI requests, including document assessment, application of exemptions, consultation processes and preparation of legally sound defensible decisions.
• Experience with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and/or Privacy & Data Protection Act 2014 (Vic) is desirable.
• Experience working within a Commonwealth Government agency or in an organisation subject to the FOI Act 1982 (Cth) and the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth).

Responsibilities

• Support the Manager, FOI & Privacy with timely FOI service delivery to applicants.
• Process requests in accordance with the Commonwealth FOI Act and guidelines.
• Build relationships with stakeholders and promote release of documents.
• Contribute to reviews and complaints pertaining to FOI applications.
