Job summary

JN | Consulting Engineers, based in Sydney, seeks a senior Fire Engineer to lead the design and delivery of fire engineering services across diverse building projects and to grow JN’s in-house capability. Sydney CBD or Sutherland Shire offices, with a clear path to Associate for the right candidate.

The role requires a Bachelor of Engineering or equivalent, a minimum of 8 years’ fire engineering experience, and FPAS accreditations across automatic sprinklers, hydrants, hoses, and detection

Qualifications

• FPAS Fire Systems Design accreditation across sprinkler, hydrant and hose reel, and fire detection and alarm systems.
• FPAS Fire Safety Assessment accreditation is highly regarded.
• Strong communication with stakeholders across disciplines and clients.

Responsibilities

• Attend client and stakeholder design meetings.
• Design and document wet and dry fire systems, including sprinklers, hydrants, hose reels, gas suppression, and detectors.
• Coordinate fire system design with hydraulic, mechanical and electrical teams for integrated building services.
• Author and review fire engineering reports and performance solutions under the NCC.
• Manage projects and coordinate fire engineering design delivery.
• Grow and mentor JN’s fire engineering team; understand budgets and profitability targets.

Reporting to the Building Services Manager - City, you will lead the design and delivery of fire engineering services design and documentation across a diverse range of building projects, while establishing and growing JN’s in-house fire capability. This role is available from either our Sydney CBD or Sutherland Shire office, and offers a genuine pathway to Associate level for the right candidate.

Responsibilities

• Attending client and stakeholder design meetings;
• Designing and documenting wet and dry fire systems, including automatic sprinklers, hydrants, hose reels, gas suppression systems, and fire detection and alarm systems;
• Coordinating fire system design with JN’s hydraulic, mechanical and electrical teams to deliver fully integrated building services solutions;
• Authoring and reviewing fire engineering reports and performance solutions under the NCC;
• Managing key projects and coordinating fire engineering design delivery;
• Growing and mentoring JN’s fire engineering team; and
• Understanding of budgets and profitability targets.

Experience

• A relevant engineering qualification (Bachelor of Engineering or equivalent);
• A minimum of 8 years’ experience in fire engineering, ideally within a building services consultancy;
• FPAS Fire Systems Design (FSD) accreditation across all three categories - automatic sprinkler systems, fire hydrant and hose reel systems, and fire detection and alarm systems;
• FPAS Fire Safety Assessment (FSA) accreditation is highly regarded;
• Solid experience with wet fire systems: sprinklers, hydrants, hose reels and gas suppression;
• Solid experience with dry fire systems: smoke and heat detection, fire alarm and EWIS design;
• Strong understanding of relevant Australian Standards (AS 2118, AS 2419, AS 1670 series, AS 4428, AS 1851) and the National Construction Code;
• Experience coordinating within multidisciplinary design and documentation teams;
• Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate information of a complex nature both verbally and in writing with all stakeholders across disciplines, including colleagues and clients; and
• A personable work approach and the ability to build strong stakeholder relationships.
