Overview

The Connect Group was founded to provide the farms that feed Australia with a reliable, affordable and sustainable labour solution from the Pacific Islands and Timor Leste through the original Seasonal Worker Pilot Scheme back in 2009.

We now provide seasonal crews for up to 9 months under the Seasonal Worker Program (SWP), or more permanent team members for between 1 and 3 years under the Pacific Labour Scheme (PLS) both of which have now been combined into the Pacific Australia Labour Mobility Scheme (PALM).

Our client base, status and credibility within the scheme over the last several years has continued to grow across Australia and the Pacific Islands to the point where we are now looking to appoint a Senior Financial Controller.

The Opportunity:

The opportunity arises off the back of the imminent retirement of a long-tenured team member. The senior executive team is looking for an exceptional finance professional, who will support the business through a transitional phase, and be well-equipped to play a pivotal part in the next phase of the Company’s growth.

The role:

The Senior Financial Controller will be responsible for the day-to-day operations of the Finance Department and will assist the MD and CEO with the financial, resource and business management of the Company in accordance with company policies, legislative requirements and within budgetary parameters.

This position will be responsible for ensuring timely and accurate accounts and reporting of relevant information for the day-to-day management of the business.

The role will ensure that there is compliance with internal cost control procedures and will maintain the business systems.

It is anticipated that this role will initially be a 12 Month contract role with the potential to be worked on a flexible hours/days basis. One to two days per week will be working in our Boronia office with the balance working remotely.

Office equipment such as laptop and mobile phone account will be supplied; a secure home internet connection must be established and will be subsidised.

Work related travel expenses to be provided by Connect Group.

Significant performance and outcomes bonus will apply to the candidate who exceeds expectations.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Preparation of monthly management reports for Board meetings.
  • Identify and enact cost efficiencies and process improvement opportunities throughout the company. This is a critical element of the role, and you will have the full support of the senior executive team to implement new initiatives that will improve business outcomes.
  • Working with the Administration Manager, oversee and monitor payment of accounts, payroll and the Company’s superannuation & other statutory obligations.
  • Working with the Administration Manager and Operations Co-ordinators, oversee the debt collection process, including liaison with stakeholders. Prepare monthly reports.
  • Preparation of Annual Budgets, cash flow forecasts and monitoring of performance.
  • Monitoring accounting records and internal controls.
  • Advising staff generally about complying with GST and FBT issues.
  • Oversee and ensure accuracy of bank reconciliations
  • Ensure monthly reconciliations are performed for key general ledger accounts.
  • Preparation of monthly expenditure reports
  • Ensure up to date individual client P&L are in place monthly for analysis

STAFF SUPERVISION / MANAGEMENT

We seek a leader to head up our finance and administration function. Your role will include ensuring financial and administrative functions are performed in an efficient and timely manner by managing workloads, monitoring and developing work systems, determining priorities, developing and implementing policies and guidelines.

Work alongside the Administration Manager and GM - HR / QA to design and implement financial change management and associated staff KPIs linked to remuneration and bonus outcomes

Identify training requirements for staff under direct control and organise appropriate training / Professional Development within budgetary constraints.

Working with the Administration Manager, oversee day to day administration activities

Monitor skill levels and arrange relevant training, induction and / or appropriate job descriptions for new employees.

Oversees the management of external contracts.

Assist with the control and management of the Company Asset Register.

Direct and facilitate compliance with all financial processes.

ESSENTIAL CRITERIA

  • Strong numeracy skills and a sound understanding of accounting practices.
  • Excellent financial analysis and remedial action skills
  • Ability to interpret and apply relevant legislation.
  • Good analytical skills with an ability to identify and solve problems, and opportunities for improvement.
  • Strong computing skills including Microsoft Office suite and in particular Excel.
  • Tertiary qualifications, preferably in accounting or commerce or demonstrated equivalent experience, knowledge and skills
  • Ability to set and achieve targets as directed by the M.D.
  • An ability to meet deadlines and resolve complex issues.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and an ability to successfully communicate and liaise with people at all levels, both internal and external to the Company.
  • Absolute discretion when dealing with confidential information.
  • Identify opportunities for improvement and achieving same.

DESIREABLE CRITERIA

  • Knowledge of the PALM Deed and Guidelines.
  • Experience managing the financials of a medium to large Labour Hire business.
