Job summary

Downer Group is seeking a Senior Finance Systems Accountant (SAP) to govern, support and optimise the SAP Finance platform. You will bridge Finance, Technology and business teams to deliver secure, compliant and efficient finance system outcomes.

As the primary SAP Finance SME, you will lead governance of master data, security, access controls and SOX-style compliance, while driving performance improvements and SAP S/4HANA roadmap initiatives.

Qualifications

• Experience supporting SAP Finance in large enterprises (FI, GL, AP, AR).
• Strong governance, IT controls, and compliance knowledge.
• CPA/CA and SAP certification preferred.
• Proven ability to lead finance system enhancements and transformations.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management.

Responsibilities

Job description

The Senior Finance Systems Accountant (SAP) is a pivotal role responsible for the governance, support, optimisation and evolution of the SAP Finance platform. As the primary SAP Finance Subject Matter Expert, you will bridge Finance, Technology and business teams to deliver secure, compliant and efficient finance system outcomes. The role combines operational excellence with strategic transformation, driving process improvement, governance uplift and SAP roadmap initiatives. You will play a key role in ensuring finance systems support business performance while maintaining strong control, audit and compliance standards.

Key Responsibilities

Act as the primary SAP Finance expert, providing trusted advice and support to finance stakeholders across the organisation.

Lead governance of SAP Finance, including finance master data, security controls, user access management and segregation of duties oversight.

Drive User Access Reviews (UARs), audit remediation activities and ongoing compliance with governance and control frameworks.

Provide Level 3 support for critical SAP Finance issues, ensuring timely resolution and stability of business-critical systems.

Lead solution design, requirements gathering and process improvement initiatives for SAP Finance projects and enhancements.

Partner with Technology teams, external vendors and offshore support teams to deliver quality services and continuous system improvements.

Lead and support SAP S/4HANA roadmap, and transformation initiatives, including solution design, business process optimisation, testing and deployment activities

Develop and maintain process documentation, governance frameworks, controls and workflows to support sustainable and scalable finance operations.

Act as a trusted advisor to Finance leaders and stakeholders, providing strategic guidance on finance systems capabilities, risks and opportunities for improvement.

What You Will Bring

Degree qualification in Accounting, Finance, Information Technology or a related discipline, with CPA/CA and SAP certifications viewed favourably.

Extensive experience supporting SAP Finance within complex enterprise environments, including Financial Accounting (FI), General Ledger, Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable and related finance processes.

Strong understanding of finance systems governance, user access management, segregation of duties, IT controls, audit requirements and compliance frameworks.

Proven experience delivering system enhancements, business process improvements and finance transformation initiatives, ideally within SAP S/4HANA environments.

Expertise in finance master data governance, workflow controls, solution design and stakeholder engagement across Finance and Technology teams.

Excellent analytical, problem-solving and communication skills, with the ability to translate complex business requirements into practical system solutions.

A collaborative and proactive approach, with the ability to influence stakeholders, manage competing priorities and drive continuous improvement outcomes.
