Job summary

The University of Tasmania is seeking a Senior Field and Fleet Officer to ensure safe, effective, and compliant field activities across the School of Natural Sciences, supporting staff and students with operational expertise, training, and field-trip coordination.

You will manage a fleet of 12 vehicles and related equipment, oversee risk assessments and safety procedures, and report to the SNS Operations Manager while collaborating with a diverse academic community.

Qualifications

• Combination of extensive relevant work experience and/or education/training.
• Significant experience in providing technical field support including risk assessments, safe working practices and standard operating protocols.
• Strong WHS knowledge and safe work systems management, including field and driving hazards.
• Experience managing a fleet of assets, 4WD vehicles would be advantageous.
• Demonstrated ability to analyse and solve complex technical and non-technical problems and to adapt rapidly to changing priorities and tasks.
• Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to communicate effectively with students, staff and external stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Manage day-to-day field and fleet operations ensuring effective coordination, safety, and operational efficiency.
• Provide safety management support to staff and students by facilitating fieldwork risk assessments, coordinating inductions and organising further training where required.
• Contribute to the development and implementation of SNS safety procedures including SOPs, SWPs, Risk Assessments and induction materials.
• Manage and maintain vehicle, trailer and other field equipment including oversight of booking systems and monthly billing reports.
• Coordinate asset use and maintenance, ensuring timely servicing and repair of vehicles, trailers and field equipment.
