Job summary

AusNet is seeking a Senior Field Engineer to lead technical expertise across its electricity distribution network. You will work with field crews and operations to ensure safe, reliable performance of Zone Substations, transformers, switchgear and protection systems while mentoring less experienced engineers.

Qualifications

• Degree in Electrical, Civil or Mechanical Engineering.
• Postgraduate qualifications in Asset Management or Business Management are advantageous.
• Strong understanding of electricity distribution networks, asset performance and risk management.
• Experience with field maintenance on a live electricity network.

As a Senior Field Engineer, you'll play a critical role in ensuring the safe, reliable and efficient operation of AusNet's electricity distribution network. Working closely with field crews and operational teams, you'll provide technical leadership across a diverse portfolio of network assets, including Zone Substations, distribution feeders, switchgear, voltage regulation equipment, protection systems, reclosers, regulators and broader poles and wires infrastructure.

This is an opportunity to combine hands-on field engagement with strategic asset management, influencing how critical network assets are maintained, improved and operated to deliver safe and reliable energy to Victorian communities. You'll mentor developing engineers and field personnel, contribute to network resilience, and help shape the future performance of AusNet's distribution network.

This role offers a 3/2 hybrid working arrangement and the flexibility to work across AusNet depots and operational sites throughout Victoria. Regular travel is required.

What you'll deliver

• Provide technical leadership and asset management expertise across a broad range of distribution and sub-transmission assets, including Zone Substations, transformers, switchgear, protection systems, voltage regulation equipment, reclosers, regulators and poles and wires infrastructure.
• Support the ongoing safety, reliability and performance of AusNet's distribution network through effective asset management and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Conduct condition assessments, technical investigations and failure analyses to identify emerging risks and improve network resilience.
• Collaborate with Distribution Network Management, Operations and field delivery teams to optimise asset performance and balance safety, reliability, risk and cost outcomes.
• Provide specialist engineering input into asset replacement, refurbishment and augmentation programs.
• Investigate network and asset performance issues and develop practical, fit-for-purpose engineering solutions.
• Support and mentor engineers and field-based personnel, sharing knowledge and fostering technical capability across the business.
• Contribute to a strong safety culture and support health and safety performance objectives.

What you'll bring

• Degree qualifications in Electrical, Civil or Mechanical Engineering.
• Postgraduate qualifications in Asset Management, Business Management or a related discipline are advantageous.
• Strong understanding of electricity distribution networks, asset performance, reliability engineering and network risk management.
• Experience working with field maintenance and construction teams within a live electricity network environment.
• Demonstrated ability to analyse technical problems, assess risk and develop practical engineering solutions.
• High-level stakeholder engagement, influencing and communication skills.
• A strong focus on safety, customer outcomes and continuous improvement.
