Job summary

The P.A. People in Sydney is seeking a Senior Fabricator to lead fabrication activities within a fast-paced, multi-trade environment.

This hands-on role combines advanced metal fabrication skills with leadership duties to deliver high-quality outcomes for theatres, venues, and studios. You will interpret shop drawings, shape and bend metal, join components with MIG welding, mentor apprentices, allocate tasks, and liaise with project teams to meet schedules.

Qualifications

• Proven experience in metal fabrication, welding and assembly.
• Strong leadership and team management skills.
• Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and plans.
• Excellent problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Competent in MIG welding (carbon steel).
• Proficient with metal fabrication tools and equipment.
• Experience with various welding machinery and techniques.
• Experience reading shop (production) drawings.
• Ability to fabricate without formal drawings.
• Ability to fabricate custom items.
• Basic computer skills across MS Office suite.
• High attention to detail and quality.

Responsibilities

• Interpret shop drawings and specifications to determine job requirements.
• Shape and bend metal sections using hand and machine tools.
• Join metal components using various welding techniques and machinery.
• Oversee daily workshop operations and allocate tasks.
• Provide technical guidance and mentorship to team members.
• Liaise with project managers, engineers and other departments to meet specifications and timelines.
• Manage an apprentice and ensure safety standards.
