Job summary

Bathurst Regional Council seeks an experienced Senior Environmental Health Officer to lead the Environmental Officers in Bathurst. You will implement policies and educate the community while protecting and enhancing the local environment. Five+ years in a similar role and strong communication are essential.

You will provide technical and policy guidance to stakeholders, negotiate conflicts, and mentor staff while advancing systematic improvements across programs and services.

Qualifications

• Bachelor degree in Environmental Health or Science is required.
• Five+ years in monitoring/inspection of premises for public health compliance.
• Experience in issuing notices and infringement notices under relevant acts.
• Ability to provide specialist technical advice on environmental health development assessments.

About the role

An exciting opportunity exists for an enthusiastic and experienced environmental management professional to lead our motivated and collaborative team of Environmental Officer’s at Bathurst Regional Council. The Senior Environmental Officer will have a minimum of 5 years’ experience in a similar role and be capable of implementing policies, procedures and programs that both educate the community and assist Council to protect and enhance the local environment.

It is essential that the successful candidate is an excellent communicator as they will provide technical and policy advice to internal and external stakeholders and be confident in negotiating conflict to achieve satisfactory outcomes.

Key Requirements

• Bachelor Degree in Environmental Health or Science
• A minimum of five year’s experience in the monitoring and inspection of premises to ensure compliance with Public Health and Environmental Standards
• Demonstrated ability to prepare warning letters, notices, orders and Penalty Infringement Notices under various Acts
• Demonstrated capacity to provide specialist technical advice in the assessment of development applications relevant to Environmental Health
• Solid working knowledge of the Food Act 2003, Public Health Act 2010, Local Government Act 1993 and associated regulations
• Ability and experience in the mentoring and supervision of staff
• Advance written and verbal communication and customer service skills
• Advanced negotiation and conflict resolution skills
• Organised and committed to continuously improving systems, procedures and policies
• Demonstrated experience in providing timely and technically sound advice to staff, businesses and the community in environmental health matters
• Intermediate user of MS Office applications, Mitti (iAuditor), Intramaps and industry specific programs
• Demonstrated proficiency in the use of various IT hardware for both office and field based applications
• Willingness to work outside of ordinary business hours to complete inspections when required

This position requires a pre employment health assessment which includes a functional, audio and drug & alcohol screen

Salary: $1,809.00 to $1,900.57 per week (dependent on skills, qualifications and experience) plus superannuation and a leaseback vehicle

Position Status: Permanent - Full Time

Hours of work: 35 hours per week with an RDO every third week
