Job summary

WSP is seeking an experienced Senior Environmental Approvals consultant in Queensland to lead environmental assessments and planning projects within the energy and resources sector. You will coordinate multidisciplinary teams, collaborate with clients and specialists, and contribute to proposals to drive successful approvals.

Candidates bring 10+ years in environmental planning, strong knowledge of Australian environmental legislation, and excellent communication skills.

Qualifications

• Degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Management, Urban Planning or related field.
• 10+ years of experience in environmental planning and approvals, ideally in energy/resources.
• Experience leading projects related to environment impact assessment and approvals.
• High level understanding of Australian environmental legislation and policy frameworks.
• Familiarity with GIS, data analysis, or digital tools for environmental assessment.
• Strong communication skills and a collaborative mindset.

WSP’s Environmental Approvals team contribute some of Australia’s most interesting and innovative projects across broad sectors including resource, infrastructure, energy and defence.

Due to consistent growth and a strong project pipeline our Queensland Approvals team are looking for an additional senior Environmental Approvals consultant ideally with strong experience across the energy and resources sector.

You’ll

• Leading environmental assessments and planning projects
• Coordinating multidisciplinary teams to help deliver approvals that align with project and client goals.
• Contributing to proposals and business development activities in a collaborative, team-oriented way.
• Working closely with clients, project managers, and technical specialists (ecologists, acousticians, contaminated land scientists, engineers, designers) to develop practical, forward-thinking solutions.
• Using data to design monitoring programs and assess environmental impacts of major developments.
• Mentor, coach and develop junior and intermediate consultants with a focus on knowledge transfer and capability building.

About You

We’re open to a range of backgrounds and experiences, but ideally, you’ll bring:

• A degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Management, Urban Planning, Ecology, or a related field (postgraduate qualifications are a bonus)
• 10+ years of experience in environmental planning and approvals, ideally in the energy and resources sector
• Experience leading projects related to environment impact assessment and approvals
• High level understanding of environmental legislation and policy frameworks in Australia
• Familiarity with GIS, data analysis, or digital tools for environmental assessment (helpful but not essential)
• Strong communication skills and a collaborative mindset
