As one of the preferred recruitment partners, we are currently looking for a PO5 Senior Environment Specialist to join the Environmental Uplift Program with an initial contract to October 2027.

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Senior Environment Specialist to lead the technical design, development, and delivery of a revamped Environmental Management System (EMS). Sitting within our Senior Water & Environment Advisory team, you will serve as the core technical expert translating environmental legislation and ISO 14001 standards into practical, ground-level controls for planning, construction, maintenance, and disaster response operations.

Working alongside the Project Lead and key operational stakeholders, you will shape our environmental compliance strategy, build governance frameworks, and ensure high-standard environmental practices across a complex, asset-intensive portfolio.

Key Responsibilities

Technical EMS Design: Lead the development of practical environmental frameworks, policies, standards, procedures, and operational tools aligned with ISO 14001.

Regulatory & Risk Advisory: Interpret complex environmental legislation and provide authoritative technical advice across construction, asset maintenance, and disaster recovery activities.

Operational Integration: Translate compliance obligations into user-friendly processes for site teams, contractors, and operational managers.

Audit & Assurance: Conduct environmental risk assessments, establish compliance assurance processes, and design environmental performance reporting mechanisms.

Capacity Building: Develop environmental training materials and awareness programs to embed continuous improvement and drive sustainable change across the organization.

Mandatory Requirements

Qualifications: Degree-level qualification in Environmental Science, Environmental Management, Environmental Planning, Environmental Engineering, or a related discipline from a recognised tertiary institution.

Technical Expertise: Substantial background designing, implementing, and uplifting enterprise Environmental Management Systems (EMS) within complex operational settings.

Regulatory Mastery: Deep understanding of environmental legislation, compliance obligations, governance frameworks, and environmental risk mitigation strategies.

• Current Open Class C Driver's Licence (QLD) or equivalent.
• Requirement to undergo a criminal history check prior to appointment.
• Hold current Australian working rights. (Evidence will be required as part of the application process.)

Highly Desirable Experience

Construction & Infrastructure: Prior experience within government, construction, facilities management, or property-related organizations.

System Rollouts & ISO 14001: Direct experience building or uplifting frameworks aligned with ISO 14001 standards.

Transformation & Change: Proven capability in environmental data management, auditing, and supporting large-scale business transformation initiatives.

Stakeholder Engagement: Exceptional report writing, analytical, and facilitation skills with a track record of translating complex regulations into plain-language operational controls.

It is expected that the successful candidate will possess strong oral/written communication, presentation and interpersonal skills. They will display initiative, attention to detail, and have the ability to work autonomously and unsupervised whilst contributing to the wider team's objectives of ensuring service delivery exceeds expectations.
