Job summary

Airservices Australia invites applications for a Senior Engineering Specialist (Communications) based in Brisbane or Canberra. You will sustain and enhance critical operational communications that support Air Traffic Control and Aviation Rescue & Fire Fighting services across Australia.

The role requires a degree in Engineering (Australian) or equivalent, eligibility for Professional Engineer registration, and NV1-level security clearance.

Qualifications

• A relevant degree in Engineering from an Australian tertiary institution, or certified equivalent qualification.
• Eligibility for registration as a Professional Engineer in a relevant engineering field.
• Eligibility to obtain and maintain an Australian Government National Security Clearance at NV1 level.
• Extensive experience designing, implementing and supporting complex telecommunications or communications systems.
• Strong knowledge of Systems Engineering principles and their application across the full engineering lifecycle.
• Experience preparing technical documentation including system designs, specifications, test plans and engineering reports.
• Demonstrated capability managing complex technical investigations and implementing effective solutions.
• Experience working with stakeholders, vendors and multidisciplinary technical teams.
• Strong communication skills with the ability to explain complex technical concepts to a range of audiences.
• Experience with configuration management, technical governance and technology change processes.
• A commitment to safety, quality and continuous improvement.

This is more than a communications engineering role.

As a Senior Engineering Specialist (Communications), based in Brisbane or Canberra, you'll play a key role in the sustainment, enhancement and technical governance of critical operational communications systems that support Air Traffic Control and Aviation Rescue & Fire Fighting Services across Australia.

The Role & The Team

Working within the Aerodrome Platform team, you will provide specialist engineering expertise across a portfolio of voice switching platforms, telecommunications bearer networks and monitoring systems. You'll apply systems engineering principles throughout the technology lifecycle, from requirements definition and design through to integration, testing, deployment and operational support.

You will lead complex investigations, analyse system performance, manage technical changes, contribute to technology roadmaps and provide trusted technical advice to stakeholders across Airservices. You'll also work closely with project teams, operational users, engineering specialists and technology vendors to ensure critical systems continue to meet safety, reliability and operational requirements.

This role offers the opportunity to work on highly specialised communications technologies that form part of Australia's National Airways System and directly contribute to aviation safety outcomes.
