Job summary

Transgrid is seeking a Senior Engineer - Emerging Technologies to lead innovation trials and emerging technology initiatives that support a flexible, efficient and sustainable power system in Australia. You will collaborate with industry partners and internal experts to turn complex technical and regulatory challenges into practical outcomes.

The role involves steering multiple trials from planning to delivery, assessing new technologies, and influencing decisions to advance the energy

Qualifications

• Experience delivering complex technical, commercial, regulatory or strategic initiatives in energy or infrastructure.
• Strong project management with diverse stakeholders and risk management.
• Ability to learn new technical, regulatory or commercial subject matter quickly.
• Clear written and verbal communication to build external partnerships and influence stakeholders.

• Manage the Demand Management Innovation Allowance and deliver innovation trials with external industry partners.
• Run Expressions of Interest and coordinate the assessment of project submissions and opportunities.
• Project manage multiple innovation trials from planning through to delivery, bringing together internal stakeholders and subject matter experts.
• Lead internal innovation workstreams, including research into data centre and flexible-load opportunities.
• Assess emerging technologies, market developments and non-network solutions, helping Transgrid experiment with new approaches and make evidence-based decisions.

Transgrid operates and manages the major high voltage electricity transmission network in NSW and the ACT, connecting generators, distributors and major end users.

Our core role is to connect electricity consumers to a safe, secure and reliable network through efficient maintenance, proficient operation of assets and prudent investment. Our network is the backbone of the NEM, enabling energy trading between Australia's three largest states along the east coast and supporting the competitive wholesale electricity market

About the role

As Senior Engineer - Emerging Technologies, you will lead innovation trials and emerging technology initiatives that support a more flexible, efficient and sustainable power system. Working with industry partners and specialists across Transgrid, you will turn complex technical, commercial and regulatory challenges into practical outcomes. This is first of its kind work with the potential to influence how the network evolves for a new era of clean energy.

What you'll do

About you

You are a self-starter who is comfortable working across disciplines and navigating ambiguity. You bring strong project management, stakeholder engagement and problem-solving skills, along with critical thinking, decisive action and the discipline to move forward without ready-made answers or perfect conditions.

You’ll bring

• Qualifications in engineering, economics, commerce, data science, computer science or another relevant discipline, or equivalent experience.
• Experience developing, assessing or delivering complex technical, commercial, regulatory or strategic initiatives in energy or another infrastructure-intensive industry.
• Strong project management skills, including coordinating diverse stakeholders, managing risks and maintaining delivery momentum.
• Knowledge of the energy industry and emerging technologies, with the ability to rapidly learn new technical, regulatory or commercial subject matter.
• Clear written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to build external partnerships and influence stakeholders.
