Job summary

Alcoa is seeking an experienced Electrical Engineering Leader at our Portland Smelter to strengthen equipment reliability and regulatory compliance across operations.

You will lead a multi-disciplinary reliability team, drive engineering initiatives, and collaborate with operations, maintenance and project teams to optimise plant performance and safety.

Qualifications

  • Degree qualifications in Electrical Engineering and eligibility for Engineers Australia membership.
  • Extensive electrical engineering experience in heavy industrial, manufacturing, mining or smelting environments.
  • Experience leading, supervising and coaching engineering or technical teams.
  • Strong knowledge of electrical standards, compliance requirements and best practices.
  • Proven reliability engineering experience, root cause analysis and continuous improvement.
  • Strong stakeholder engagement and ability to influence across disciplines.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical leadership to improve equipment reliability, integrity and performance across the site.
  • Act as site electrical engineering discipline lead, owning standards and regulatory compliance.
  • Lead and coach a multi-disciplinary reliability engineering team delivering high-quality technical support and outcomes.
  • Identify, investigate and implement reliability improvements through data analysis, defect elimination and root cause investigations.
  • Support capital projects and improvement initiatives applying ABS principles and engineering best practice.
  • Drive continuous improvement, cost reduction and asset utilisation to enhance operational performance.

About the Role

Reporting to the Reliability Superintendent, you will play a key leadership role in supporting equipment reliability, electrical compliance, asset performance and continuous improvement across our manufacturing operations. As the site discipline lead for electrical engineering, you will provide technical direction, lead engineering initiatives and work closely with operational, maintenance and project teams to optimise plant performance and reliability.
You will combine technical expertise, leadership and innovation to deliver engineering solutions that improve safety, reliability, productivity and operational excellence in a complex industrial environment.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Providing technical leadership and engineering support to improve equipment reliability, integrity and performance across the site.
  • Acting as the site electrical engineering discipline lead, including ownership, interpretation and application of electrical standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Leading and coaching a multi-disciplinary reliability engineering team to deliver high-quality technical support and business outcomes.
  • Identifying, investigating and implementing reliability and improvement opportunities through data analysis, defect elimination and root cause investigations.
  • Supporting capital projects and improvement initiatives through the application of Alcoa Business System (ABS) principles and engineering best practice.
  • Driving continuous improvement, cost reduction and asset utilisation initiatives that enhance operational performance and equipment reliability.

What you can bring to the role

You are an experienced electrical engineering professional who enjoys solving complex technical challenges, developing engineering capability and driving operational improvement. You thrive in a collaborative industrial environment and are passionate about safety, innovation and reliability excellence and possess;

  • Degree qualifications in Electrical Engineering, with eligibility for Engineers Australia membership.
  • Extensive experience in electrical engineering within a heavy industrial, manufacturing, processing, mining or smelting environment.
  • Demonstrated experience leading, supervising and coaching engineering or technical teams.
  • Strong knowledge of electrical standards, compliance requirements and engineering best practices.
  • Proven capability in reliability engineering, root cause analysis, defect elimination and continuous improvement methodologies.
  • Strong stakeholder engagement skills with the ability to influence outcomes and build effective working relationships across multiple disciplines.
