Job summary

Navantia Australia seeks a Senior Electrical Engineer to deliver electrical and control system designs for naval ships from our Sydney office. You will apply robust systems engineering, develop plans, and coordinate with the broader engineering team to meet client expectations and regulatory standards.

You will mentor junior engineers, prepare technical reports, and manage project scope, schedule, and budget while engaging with clients and subcontractors across complex defence programs.

Qualifications

• Naval defence industry experience
• Electrical/control systems on naval ships up to 440VAC
• Ability to produce clear, well-presented reports
• Strong interpersonal skills
• Familiarity with shipbuilding regulations
• Experience with CAD software (MicroStation, AutoCAD)
• Autonomy and initiative; able to work under pressure
• Ability to manage multiple tasks across projects
• Excellent communication across all levels

Responsibilities

• Provide high level electrical engineering competence based on experience
• Complete electrical/control systems design for naval ship systems using systems engineering
• Conduct investigations and root-cause analysis to identify solutions
• Create designs to integrate platform electrical and control systems on naval vessels
• Deliver technical reports and documentation to Navantia and client standards
• Coordinate with multi-disciplinary Navantia teams and stakeholders
• Plan, schedule and manage engineering projects from concept to delivery
• Participate in design coordination and client design review meetings
• Liaise with clients and subcontractors; support on-board installation planning
