ACCIONA Mechanical & Electrical is seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer – HV/Primary to design and deliver high‑voltage substations and primary plant systems that support Australia’s clean energy transition.

This role focuses on cost-effective, technically robust designs with constructability and on‑site execution in mind across a range of Australian projects.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering is required.
• Chartered Status (RPEV/RPEQ/NER/CPEng) desirable or achievable within 6 months.
• 4+ years HV/primary design experience for 220kV+ transmission networks.
• Experience in HV equipment selection, layouts, earthing, and primary plant integration.

Responsibilities

• Apply engineering principles to develop system designs meeting project specs and RAM.
• Develop design components with supervision and ensure alignment with system requirements.
• Use modelling tools to optimize performance and prepare drawings, reports, and specs.
• Perform Safety in Design assessments and integrate safety into decisions.
• Collaborate across mechanical, electrical, controls, and communications teams.
• Coordinate across disciplines to ensure design integration and resolve interfaces.

ACCIONA Mechanical & Electrical is a specialist division within ACCIONA, delivering end-to-end mechanical and electrical design, construction, installation and commissioning services that support the transition to a low-carbon future.

Position

This role suits an experienced engineer with strong HV/primary systems capability, as the Senior Electrical Engineer – HV/Primary, you will design and deliver high‑voltage substations and primary plant systems that enable the safe, efficient, and resilient operation of transmission networks supporting Australia’s clean‑energy transition.

This role will support the delivery of a wide range of infrastructure projects across Australia, spanning diverse scales and complexities. The position is focused on developing cost-effective, technically robust design solutions. A strong emphasis on constructability ensures that designs translate into efficient, safe, and sustainable outcomes during on‑site execution.

Key Responsibilities

• Apply mechanical and electrical engineering principles to independently develop system designs that meet project specifications and incorporate RAM principles
• Develop and refine design components with supervision, ensuring alignment with overall system requirements
• Use modelling and simulation tools to optimise and validate system performance and Compliance, prepare and review technical documentation, including design drawings, reports, and specifications
• Perform Safety in Design assessments and integrate safety considerations into design decisions
• Collaborate with other teams to integrate mechanical, electrical, controls, and communications systems
• Coordinate effectively across disciplines to ensure design integration and resolve interface issues

Required Skills and Competencies

• Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering
• Chartered Status (including RPEV, RPEQ, NER & CPEng), or the ability to achieve within 6 months of commencing, is desirable
• 4+ years’ HV/primary design experience for transmission networks (220kV+)
• Expertise in HV equipment selection, substation layouts, bus arrangements, earthing, insulation coordination, and primary plant integration.
• Solid understanding of HV transmission standards, TNSP/utility requirements, and relevant design codes.
• Strong in producing clear primary drawings, including GA layouts, SLDs, schematics, equipment schedules, and technical reports.
• Tier 1/Tier 2 EPC or TNSP experience highly regarded but not essential
