Qualifications

The Role

WSP Australia is seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer to join our Mining team in Newcastle. This role is ideal for an experienced engineer with strong capability across low voltage (LV), medium voltage (MV) and earthing/grounding systems, looking to take a lead role in technical delivery across a diverse portfolio of mining and resources projects.

You will work closely with multidisciplinary teams to deliver safe, practical and compliant electrical engineering solutions across studies, design and delivery phases.

• Lead and deliver electrical engineering design for mining and resources projects across concept, study and detailed design phases
• Develop and review electrical design deliverables including: Single line diagrams (SLDs), schematics, earthing studies/designs, earthing layouts and touch/step potential considerations, technical reports, design calculations and commissioning documentation
• Provide technical expertise across LV/MV distribution, power systems and earthing/grounding designs
• Coordinate with civil, mechanical, structural, controls and project management teams to deliver integrated outcomes
• Participate in design reviews, HAZIDs/HAZOPs (as applicable), client workshops and technical risk assessments
• Support project delivery through scope definition, cost/time inputs, and quality assurance aligned to WSP governance
• Provide guidance and mentoring to junior and intermediate engineers

About You

You’re a technically strong, solutions‑focused electrical engineer who can confidently operate across both power distribution and earthing systems, with the ability to guide teams and contribute to safe, high‑quality project outcomes in mining and heavy industry environments.

• Degree qualified in Electrical Engineering (or closely related discipline)
• Proven experience delivering electrical engineering design within mining, resources, heavy industrial or infrastructure environments
• Demonstrated experience in LV and MV power distribution systems, earthing/grounding design and power system studies
• Experience in a consulting/project delivery environment preferred
• Strong understanding of relevant Australian Standards and electrical safety expectations
• Confident communicator with the ability to work effectively in multidisciplinary teams and interface with clients
