Job summary

ServiceStream is seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer in Melbourne to deliver expert design and documentation for power and earthing systems at wireless base stations. You will coordinate with authorities, prepare SLDs and drawings, and support project delivery teams while ensuring compliance with Aussie standards.

You will lead electrical design for AC mains, earthing, and DC systems, conduct desk studies, and liaise with DNSPs to progress connections, upgrades, and alterations.

Qualifications

• Electrical design for AC mains power, earthing, and DC systems for wireless telecom infrastructure.
• Desktop analysis and route design of electrical service mains from survey inputs, maps, and images.
• Develop Single Line Diagrams (SLDs), cable schedules, and detailed electrical drawings to meet load requirements.
• Ensure designs comply with Australian Standards and client/authority requirements.
• Liaise with electrical contractors and DNSPs to determine scope and resolve power connection issues.
• Manage applications for new connections, upgrades, and alterations to power supply.
• Prepare technical documentation, templates, and design guidelines.
• Contribute to pre-construction risk assessment by understanding constructability and providing mitigation strategies.
• Conduct site visits to identify point-of-supply (POS), cable paths, and confirm site conditions.
• Define scope of works and provide design clarification to project stakeholders.
• Review subcontractor deliverables to ensure technical accuracy and compliance.
• Provide input into Power Viability Audits (PVA) and facilitate exemption processes where applicable.
• Assist in project coordination by advising on power applications, timelines, and deliverables.
• Participate in continuous improvement and mentoring of junior engineers.
• Respond to design-related queries from clients and other wireless teams.

Job description

The primary objective of the Senior Electrical Engineer is to provide expert design and documentation for power and earthing systems for wireless telecommunication base stations. This includes but is not limited to producing compliant electrical designs, coordinating with power authorities, and supporting project delivery teams.

Due to the increasing volume of telecom infrastructure projects across Optus, Vodafone, NBN and utility sectors, additional engineering capacity is required to support electrical design, authority applications, compliance reviews, power system assessments, and project delivery activities. The role will assist in maintaining project delivery timelines, reducing design bottlenecks, and supporting business growth.

Key responsibilities

Electrical design for AC mains power, earthing, and DC systems for wireless telecom infrastructure

Desktop analysis and route design of electrical service mains from survey inputs, maps, and images

Develop Single Line Diagrams (SLDs), cable schedules, and detailed electrical drawings to meet current and future load requirements

Ensure designs comply with Australian Standards and specific client and authority requirements

Liaise with electrical contractors and distribution network service providers (DNSPs) to determine scope and resolve power connection issues

Manage applications for new connections, upgrades, and alterations to power supply

Prepare technical documentation, standardised templates, and design guidelines

Contribute to pre-construction risk assessment by understanding constructability and providing mitigation strategies

Conduct site visits to identify point-of-supply (POS), cable paths, and confirm site conditions

Define scope of works and provide design clarification to project stakeholders
