Job summary

AECOM’s environmental practice in Australia seeks an experienced ecologist to lead field surveys and multidisciplinary ecology projects across Queensland, NSW, and NT. You will assess flora and fauna, prepare impact assessments, and help design mitigation strategies while working with a national team.

The role offers hybrid work, flexible hours, and opportunities for professional development as you help shape environmental approvals and client services across major infrastructure programs.

Qualifications

• Demonstrated knowledge of flora, fauna and ecological communities in Queensland (6+ years).
• Ability to lead project delivery and mentor a high-performing team.
• Experience in environmental approvals and impact reporting.
• Bachelor’s degree in Ecology, Environmental Science, Natural Resource Management, or related field.
• GIS proficiency with ESRI ArcGIS Pro (advantageous).
• Willingness to undertake fieldwork across Queensland; valid Class C license and 4WD experience.

Responsibilities

• Ecological impact assessment and offsetting for a range of projects and scale, and supporting internal clients with delivering the ecological requirements within multi-disciplinary tenders and projects
• Working independently, or with a team of ecologists, in the planning, delivery and management of ecology surveys; analysis and evaluation of results, impact assessments, and the design and implementation of successful mitigation strategies
• Provide excellent client service through risk-based strategic advice and high-quality technical reporting
• Identify and implement efficiencies and digital solutions to collaborate and work smarter
• Support the team's strategic growth, technical excellence, and innovation in ecological assessments.
• Assisting withproject management, including the technical and financial performance of ecological projects.
