Job summary

Birdon is seeking a Senior Draftsperson to join our team in a full-time role with flexible base locations (Port Macquarie, Sydney, Henderson or Melbourne). You will produce accurate 2D and 3D manufacturing drawings for fabricated, machined and welded structures, vehicle outfitting and systems, while maintaining quality and revision control throughout production.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience producing 2D & 3D manufacturing drawings in automotive or fabrication environments.
• Strong drawing skills including orthographic views, sections, detail drawings, assembly drawings, and GD&T.
• Experience producing production-level fabrication, mechanical outfitting, electrical installations and integrated systems drawings.
• Ability to interpret technical documents, manuals and drawings.
• Diploma in marine, automotive or engineering discipline is required.
• Experience with defence/government project documentation standards is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and revise 2D & 3D manufacturing drawings for automotive components, fabricated assemblies and production work packages.
• Maintain technical documentation systems and drawing registers.
• Manage revisions, bills of materials and manufacturing data.
• Create detailed fabrication, machining, sheet-metal, weldment, assembly and installation drawings for manufacture and inspection.
• Apply automotive drafting conventions, tolerancing and GD&T per standards.

Position Overview

The Senior Draftsperson is responsible for producing accurate, production-ready 2D and 3D manufacturing, assembly and installation drawings that clearly communicate build requirements to Production. The role develops detailed drawings and supporting documentation for fabricated, machined and welded structures, components, vehicle outfitting, and mechanical and electrical systems, while maintaining drawing quality, data integrity and revision control throughout production, assembly, testing and inspection.

Key Accountabilities :

• Prepare and revise 2D & 3D manufacturing engineering drawings for automotive components, fabricated assemblies and production work packages.
• Maintain technical documentation systems
• Manage drawing registers, revisions, bills of materials and manufacturing data
• Create detailed fabrication, machining, sheet-metal, weldment, assembly and installation drawings suitable for manufacture and inspection
• Operate 2D CAD software and apply automotive drafting conventions, dimensioning, tolerancing and GD&T requirements

Qualifications, Experience and Skills
Essential.

• 5+ years of experience producing 2D & 3D manufacturing engineering drawings using AutoCAD or comparable drafting software, preferably in automotive, vehicle, fabrication or production environments.
• Strong technical drawing skills, including orthographic views, sections, detail drawings, assembly drawings, dimensioning and production annotation.
• Experience producing production-level manufacturing and assembly drawings covering structural fabrication, mechanical outfitting, electrical installations and integrated systems.
• Ability to interpret technical documents, technical manuals, and drawings.
• Ability to manage data related to project documentation beyond drawings using Microsoft Excel.
• Tertiary qualifications at diploma level in a marine, automotive, production, or engineering discipline.
• Experience in engineering and related production activities is considered a positive but not required.
• Experience producing drawings for automotive, heavy vehicle, defence vehicle or transport equipment manufacturing.
• Knowledge of automotive manufacturing processes, vehicle systems, materials, fasteners, weld symbols, GD&T and relevant drafting standards.
• Understanding of Defence and government project documentation standards.
