Job summary

Allura Partners is seeking a Senior Data Engineer to lead migration and ELT/ETL development on a Snowflake/AWS data platform in Sydney. This 12-month day-rate contract focuses on migrating Teradata, Oracle and SQL Server to cloud, building scalable pipelines and AI-accelerated tooling.

You will mentor engineers, design landing zones, implement CI/CD with Terraform and GitHub Actions, and collaborate with stakeholders to ensure data parity before cutover.

Qualifications

• 7+ years in data and/or cloud engineering with cloud migration experience.

Responsibilities

• Design and build the AWS data engineering capability for the program, including landing zone, ingestion frameworks and migration tooling.
• Build scalable ELT/ETL pipelines into Snowflake covering bulk historical loads, CDC and incremental replication.
• Convert legacy warehouse logic into version-controlled pipeline code, using AI tooling to accelerate conversion and mapping.
• Lead data validation, reconciliation and cutover, proving parity before legacy decommissioning.

Our client is an Australian enterprise, with a large national footprint and a Sydney based head office. The business is investing heavily in its data future, modernising its legacy data estate onto AWS and Snowflake to reduce cost and risk.

About the Role

This 12-month day rate contract sits within the Data and Analytics function, supporting a major data modernisation program migrating Teradata, Oracle and SQL Server onto AWS and Snowflake. As a senior hands-on engineer, you'll build repeatable, AI-accelerated migration patterns, lead reconciliation and cutover, and mentor engineers across the program.

Duties / Key Responsibilities

• Design and build the AWS data engineering capability for the program, including landing zone, ingestion frameworks and migration tooling
• Build scalable ELT/ETL pipelines into Snowflake covering bulk historical loads, CDC and incremental replication
• Convert legacy warehouse logic (BTEQ, PL/SQL, T-SQL, stored procedures) into version-controlled pipeline code, using AI tooling to accelerate conversion and mapping
• Lead data validation, reconciliation and cutover, proving parity before legacy decommissioning
• Automate deployment through Terraform, CloudFormation and GitHub Actions, and mentor engineers across DevOps and DataOps practices

Skills and Experience

• 7+ years in data and/or cloud engineering, including 5+ years delivering data platforms and warehouses in a Cloud/DevOps environment, with 3+ years on AWS
• Proven hands-on delivery of large-scale migrations from Teradata, Oracle and/or SQL Server into a cloud data platform
• Deep experience with AWS data services including S3, Glue, Lambda, Step Functions, DMS, EMR, Kinesis/MSK, Athena, IAM, KMS and MWAA
• AWS certification (Data Engineer Associate, Solutions Architect or DevOps Engineer)
• Advanced SQL and Python, with orchestration and ELT tooling such as dbt, Airflow, Matillion, Fivetran or Qlik Replicate
• Demonstrated use of AI or generative-AI services (e.g. Bedrock, Amazon Q Developer, Snowflake Cortex, GitHub Copilot) to accelerate data engineering, with a sound understanding of data privacy and human-in-the-loop review
• Strong dimensional modelling knowledge, including data vault or medallion architectures and source-to-target mapping
• Infrastructure-as-code, CI/CD and containerisation experience (Terraform, CloudFormation, GitHub, Jenkins, Docker)
• Production support across batch and streaming workloads, with observability tooling (Splunk, DataDog, CloudWatch) and ITIL incident management
• Excellent stakeholder engagement and communication skills, with a track record of mentoring engineers
