Job summary

Data Division in Canberra, ACT, is seeking two Data Engineers for a 12-month contract with extension options through Aug 2028. The role focuses on data migration, integration, and analytics pipelines within on-premise and hybrid Azure/M365 environments.

You will work with stakeholders to define datasets, build scalable pipelines, and ensure data is fit for purpose. NV1 security clearance and Australian citizenship are required; hybrid work is available.

Qualifications

• 3+ years hands-on experience in data engineering, data warehousing, or analytics.
• Advanced SQL skills to handle large-scale datasets.
• Experience with cloud data platforms, preferably Azure.
• Automation and scripting with Python.
• Familiarity with on-premise and hybrid data infrastructure.

A Federal Government Department is looking to engage 2 Data Engineers to support the delivery of a range of solutions centred on data migration, data integration, data pipelines and enhancing the department’s analytics capabilities.

Initial 12 month contract with a 12 month extension options out to August 2028 (2 years total)

Estimated start date August 2026 (pending onboarding and availability)

An NV1 Security clearance required (you must be an Australian Citizen to go through the vetting process).

Full time 40 hour work week. Hourly rate contract

Preferred Location: Canberra, ACT

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

• Assist with the selection and development of designing engineering methods, tools, and techniques for on-premise and hybrid data engineering solutions
• Implement and assist in developing structure and data storing for usage in analytics and sharing with applications
• Assist in designing, developing, and implementing structured and unstructured data pipelines ensuring data is fit for purpose
• Understand the integration, consolidation, curation, migration, and transformation of data and aligns to relevant guidelines
• Collaborate with business stakeholders to determine the required data sets and analysis tools

Required Skills:

• Advanced SQL skills to extract, explore, and manipulate complex, large-scale datasets
• Experience delivering Microsoft 365 solutions will be highly regarded
• Experience with Azure Data Factory, Azure Databricks or Power BI would be desirable
• Practical competency in programming languages like Python for automation and data manipulation
• Experience designing, building, and maintaining automated data pipelines and integration workflows
• Familiarity with relational/non-relational databases and cloud or hybrid data environments in Azure
• 3+ years of hands-on experience in data engineering, data warehousing, or analytics roles
