Job summary

Murdoch University is seeking a Senior Cyber Operations Analyst to lead security operations, drive improvements to security technologies, and mentor the team. You will detect and respond to threats, investigate complex incidents, and collaborate with stakeholders to strengthen the university's cyber security posture.

The role requires expertise in Defender for Endpoint, Purview, scripting, and KQL, with responsibilities spanning incident investigations, governance, and continuous capability

Qualifications

  • A degree in Cyber Security, Information Technology, or a related discipline, or equivalent experience.
  • Experience with cyber security technologies including endpoint protection, SIEM, vulnerability management, firewalls, and networking solutions.
  • Solid incident response skills to investigate, analyse and resolve complex security issues.
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Defender technologies, Defender for Endpoint or similar solutions.
  • Experience using Microsoft Purview, scripting, and KQL to support monitoring and governance.

About The Team

The Cyber Security Team is at the forefront of protecting Murdoch University's digital landscape. The team is responsible for monitoring security threats, responding to incidents, managing cyber security technologies and driving continuous improvements to security practices across the University. With a strong focus on collaboration, innovation and resilience, the team works together to address emerging cyber risks while supporting the University's strategic goals. Your New Role!

As the Senior Cyber Operations Analyst, you'll be a key member of the Cyber Security Team, helping to protect and strengthen Murdoch University's digital environment. You'll provide technical leadership across security operations, driving improvements to security technologies, detecting and responding to cyber threats, and leading investigations into complex security incidents. Working closely with the Cyber Operations Lead and stakeholders across the University, you'll identify security risks, implement solutions, and help shape the University's cyber security capability. You'll also mentor team members, champion best practice, and contribute to a culture of continuous improvement and innovation.

What We Offer You!

This Fixed Term (12 Months) | Full Time (37.5 hours per week) attracts a remuneration of $116K – $133K (pro rata) plus 17% employer superannuation contributions.

What you’ll bring to the role:
  • A degree in Cyber Security, Information Technology, or a related discipline, or equivalent experience gained through professional practice and training.
  • Experience working with a range of cyber security technologies, including endpoint protection, SIEM platforms, vulnerability management tools, firewalls, and networking solutions.
  • A solid understanding of security incident response, with the ability to investigate, analyse and resolve complex security issues.
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Defender technologies, particularly Defender for Endpoint or similar endpoint security solutions.
  • Experience using Microsoft Purview, scripting, and KQL to support security monitoring, investigation and governance activities.
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify root causes and implement effective solutions.
