We are seeking a highly motivated professional to coordinate our waste operations including garbage and FOGO collections and the household clean-up service.

Duties and responsibilities
  • Provide high level direction, coordination and leadership to staff and contractors to ensure work is carried out efficiently, competently, and within budget and time constraints.
  • Ensure Waste Services fleet is maintained in safe and serviceable condition.
  • Ensure waste collections are provided in a timely and efficient manner, meeting Council and customer expectations within budget parameters.
  • Utilise effective communication and negotiation skills to resolve operational issues with stakeholders at all levels, internally and externally.
  • Determine training requirements for Waste Services staff and implement to provide a highly trained workforce.
  • Develop and meet agreed performance measures for staff and contractors regarding customer satisfaction, efficiency, effectiveness, WHS and Chain of Responsibility requirements.
Qualifications and experience
  • Degree qualification in Environmental Science, Waste Management, Engineering, Public Administration, or a related discipline.
  • Extensive experience in leading and managing a large multi-disciplined operational team, preferably in waste services.
  • Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills with ability to adapt management approaches across a range of waste management activities.
  • Experience in preparing detailed reports and work program budgets, advanced analytical skills, contract management, and delivering high level customer service in an operational context; strong written and verbal communication.
  • Proven ability to manage budgets, procurement processes, and compliance with environmental regulations.
  • Experience in stakeholder engagement, community consultation and working with contractors or service providers.
  • Experience in data analysis and reporting to support service improvements and sustainability initiatives.
  • High-level problem-solving and decision-making skills.
  • Class C driver's licence.
  • Negotiation skills when delivering key advice to staff or the public.
  • Strong understanding of local government operations and relevant legislation (e.g., EPA regulations, WHS).
  • Experience using computer programs such as Microsoft Office and TechnologyOne; knowledge of waste management legislation and regulations.
Remuneration and benefits

The salary and conditions of employment are in accordance with Blacktown City Council’s Enterprise Agreement.

  • Entry level for this position starts at $2,735.37 per week
