Job summary

Nixil in Canberra seeks an experienced Azure Cloud Engineer/ Architect to shape enterprise-grade cloud platforms. You will lead architecture design, provide technical direction, and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams on complex transformation programs.

Qualifications

• At least five years' experience implementing and managing cloud systems.

Key Responsibilities

In this role, you will:

• Develop enterprise-level cloud platform architectures across Microsoft Azure and Microsoft 365.
• Design high-level solution architectures for cloud-based systems.
• Produce detailed architectural guidance and technical direction for cloud engineering teams.
• Analyse business and stakeholder requirements and assess their impact on existing and proposed solutions.
• Provide technical input into the design, development and implementation of cloud-based systems.
• Support platform automation, testing, Infrastructure as Code and continuous integration and deployment.
• Ensure enterprise and system solutions comply with whole-of-government standards.
• Work closely with business owners, Scrum Masters, business analysts, developers, enterprise architects and testers.
• Collaborate with user experience, ICT engagement and enterprise architecture teams to ensure solutions align with target architectures and user needs.
• Promote enterprise architecture principles, including reuse before buying or building, configuration over customisation and open access to data over siloed functionality.
• Support alignment with the Digital Transformation Agency's Digital Service Standard.
• Provide technical leadership, strategic guidance and influence across projects and operational activities.
• Mentor team members and contribute to a collaborative, supportive team environment.

Essential Experience and Skills

To be successful, you will need:

• At least five years' experience implementing and managing cloud systems and technologies.
• Strong experience designing and implementing Microsoft Azure solutions using technologies such as:
• Azure App Service
• Azure Functions
• Azure Logic Apps
• Azure SQL

• Azure API Management
• Experience using Azure DevOps for:
• Code development and management
• Source-code repositories
• Infrastructure as Code
• CI/CD pipelines and deployments
• Experience with Microsoft Entra ID, Azure Key Vault, Azure Monitor and Application Insights.
• Strong knowledge of Azure networking, security and identity capabilities, including:
• Virtual Networks
• Private Endpoints
• Role-Based Access Control
• Experience integrating cloud solutions with third-party platforms, including Microsoft Dynamics 365 CRM.
• Demonstrated ability to develop and manage enterprise-level and application-level Azure architectures.
• Experience providing technical impact assessments and architectural guidance aligned with whole-of-government standards.
• Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders at all organisational levels.
• Experience working with geographically dispersed teams.
• The ability to collaborate with and mentor colleagues while supporting a positive team culture.
• Experience working within Agile multidisciplinary teams to deliver secure, reliable and user-friendly solutions.
• The flexibility to adapt priorities, scope and technical direction as new information, challenges or opportunities emerge.

Desirable Experience

The following experience will be highly regarded:

• A demonstrated record of technical leadership across project delivery and operational activities.
• Strong understanding of cloud technologies, architectural patterns and modern engineering practices.
• Experience in application architecture, integration architecture or infrastructure platform architecture.
• At least three years' experience designing and documenting architectures for large and complex enterprise systems.
• Experience with Amazon Web Services or Google Cloud Platform, although this is not essential.
