Job summary

McMahon Services seeks a Senior Estimator to join our Civil & Infrastructure team in Adelaide. You’ll lead tenders, price from first principles and collaborate with delivery, engineering and commercial teams to deliver high-quality, commercially competitive bids.

You’ll review drawings and specifications, engage subcontractors, manage risk and mentor junior estimators, supporting opportunities across major civil projects and tenders up to significant value.

Qualifications

• Experience estimating civil construction and infrastructure projects.
• Strong first-principles estimating capability.
• Understanding of civil construction methodologies and project delivery.
• Experience with earthworks, roads, pavements, drainage, utilities or similar civil scopes.
• Experience engaging subcontractors and suppliers.
• Strong commercial awareness and understanding of project risk.
• Experience with estimating software such as Expert Estimation, Candy, B2W or equivalent.
• Strong Microsoft Excel capability.
• Current Driver’s Licence and willingness to undertake site visits when required.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and/or lead civil and infrastructure tenders from kick-off through to submission.
• Review drawings, specifications and scopes to develop accurate take-offs and pricing.
• Prepare detailed first-principles estimates across labour, plant, materials, subcontractors, preliminaries and margin.
• Develop pricing assumptions, qualifications, exclusions and risk allowances.
• Engage subcontractors and suppliers and evaluate market pricing.
• Identify commercial, contractual and delivery risks and opportunities.
• Contribute to value engineering, constructability reviews and alternative delivery strategies.
• Work with operational and engineering teams to develop practical construction methodologies.
• Support tender programmes, resourcing strategies and site inspections.
• Participate in tender reviews and successful project handovers.
• Maintain accurate and well-structured estimating information and cost data.
• At Senior level, mentor and support Estimators and Cadet Estimators.
