Job summary

Department of Transport and Main Roads in Mackay is seeking a Senior Engineer (Civil) to lead planning initiatives across road safety, corridor management and rehabilitation needs. You will deliver studies, options analyses and business cases to influence major infrastructure decisions.

The role requires Washington Accord BE (Civil), RPEQ registration, a Class C licence and the ability to work with diverse stakeholders in a busy regional setting. Closing date 9 November 2026.

Qualifications

• Four-year, Washington Accord accredited BE (Civil) or equivalent.
• Registration as a Registered Professional Engineer of Queensland (RPEQ) is mandatory for appointment.
• Current Class 'C' Drivers Licence.
• Criminal history check will be undertaken prior to appointment to the role.

Responsibilities

• Provide specialist technical advice on project planning, road safety, corridor management and road network preservation and rehabilitation needs.
• Plan studies, strategies, plans, options analyses and business cases.
• Lead road safety upgrade programs and road crash investigations.
• Assess permits for third party and heavy vehicle access on the road corridor and wider network.
• Identify network deficiencies, prioritize, plan, evaluate, report and manage improvement projects.
• Develop productive relationships with other government agencies and stakeholders.
• Provide engineering input in responses to customer enquiries regarding road transport infrastructure matters across the district.
