Create your best future and join the Data & AI Practice as a Senior Change Manager - Data Management Transformation
What's the role?

Westpac is transforming how data is discovered, governed, managed and consumed across the enterprise. From enterprise data catalogues and metadata uplift through to lineage, governance automation, automated data quality controls and new approaches to data discovery and access, we're changing how people find, understand and trust data. As a Senior Change Manager, you'll help practitioners successfully adopt these capabilities and transition to new ways of working. This is a hands-on role for someone who enjoys getting close to the work, partnering directly with practitioners, understanding how they operate today and designing practical interventions that build capability, shift behaviours and improve adoption. Working as part of the Data & AI Practice, you'll partner closely with Data Management, Governance, Risk, Technology and business teams to drive adoption of strategic enterprise data capabilities, including Alation and other initiatives that improve how data is discovered, understood, governed and consumed across Westpac. You'll work with Data, Analytics and AI practitioner communities to build awareness, capability and confidence in new ways of working, while helping accelerate initiatives such as metadata uplift, automated data quality controls, lineage, governance automation and improvements to data discovery and access.
You'll collaborate closely with the Craft Excellence Lead, Standards Lead, Community & Engagement Lead and other Change Managers across the Practice to align narratives, coordinate practitioner impacts, identify shared capability uplift opportunities and deliver a connected experience across the Data & AI portfolio.

Key responsibilities include:
  • Develop and execute change and adoption strategies aligned to strategic Data Management initiatives and business outcomes.
  • Work directly with Data Owners, Data Stewards, Governance professionals, Engineers, Analysts and business stakeholders to understand impacts, identify barriers and accelerate adoption.
  • Lead stakeholder engagement, communications, education, training and capability uplift activities.
  • Translate Data Management concepts and technical change into practical business and practitioner outcomes.
  • Help practitioners build confidence in new approaches to data discovery, governance, metadata management, lineage, data quality and controls.
  • Identify adoption barriers and design targeted interventions that support new behaviours and ways of working.
  • Use adoption measures, practitioner feedback and behavioural insights to improve change outcomes and value realisation.
  • Partner with delivery teams, platform teams and technology vendors to align capability delivery and adoption activities.
  • Work with the Craft Excellence Lead to align adoption activities with the Practice's future skills, workforce and capability strategy.
  • Collaborate with other Change Managers across the Practice to deliver joined-up change experiences and minimise competing stakeholder impacts.
What do I need?

We're looking for someone who has helped organisations adopt transformational Data Management, Data Governance or enterprise data capabilities that materially changed how people work. You may have supported the rollout of an enterprise data catalogue, metadata management capability, governance operating model, data quality transformation, lineage program or enterprise data platform that reshaped how practitioners discovered, managed and governed data. You'll be comfortable working with Data Owners, Data Stewards, Governance professionals, Engineers, Analysts, Risk teams and business stakeholders, translating complex concepts into meaningful outcomes and creating practical interventions that build capability, shift behaviours and accelerate adoption. We're particularly interested in candidates who are AI-native in the way they work. You actively use AI to improve productivity, accelerate research, strengthen stakeholder engagement and design better change outcomes. Whether it's change planning, impact analysis, workshop preparation, communication development, capability uplift or intervention design, you look for opportunities to use AI to work smarter and help others do the same. Experience supporting an Alation implementation or comparable enterprise data catalogue initiative will be highly regarded. Whilst you don't need to be a Data Management specialist, you should be comfortable discussing these concepts with practitioners and understanding how changes affect the way they work.

Key skills and experience required:
  • Experience delivering change within large-scale Data Management, Data Governance or enterprise data transformation programs.
  • Experience supporting the implementation and adoption of enterprise data capabilities, platforms, processes or operating models.
  • Experience working with Data Owners, Data Stewards, Governance professionals, Engineers, Analysts, Risk teams and business stakeholders.
  • Experience developing communication, engagement, capability uplift and adoption strategies.
  • Experience using behavioural insights, adoption measures and practitioner feedback to improve change outcomes.
  • Demonstrated use of AI tools to improve productivity, accelerate research, strengthen stakeholder engagement and design more effective change interventions.
  • Ability to build credibility with both technical practitioners and governance communities and influence adoption without formal authority.
  • Strong stakeholder management, facilitation and communication skills.
Familiarity with the following areas would be beneficial:
  • Metadata and enterprise data catalogues
  • Data lineage and traceability
  • Data governance, ownership and stewardship
  • Data controls and controls taxonomy
  • Data discovery and access
