Auto & General is seeking a Senior Business Analyst to drive the planning and execution of initiatives across Product, Finance, Pricing & Underwriting. You will mentor BAs, partner with Product Owners, and guide analysis from ideation through delivery, ensuring alignment with company strategy.

The role requires 5+ years in business/product analysis, 3+ years of leadership, and strong knowledge of AGILE and regulatory frameworks.

The role

The purpose of this position is to support the planning and implementation of a wide range of projects in the Product, Finance, Pricing & Underwriting area. The successful candidate will work closely with and develop their direct reports and with the Business and Technology teams to facilitate the analysis of complex business issues and/or emerging opportunities, coordinate, control and execute specific initiatives whilst ensuring alignment with overall company strategy and divisional commitments.

The Senior Business Analyst of the Product Hub delivery will enhance and develop the business analysis and execution of initiatives adopting best practice methodologies and continually enhancing the capability of the team. The ideal candidate has extensive project, leadership and product development experience, possesses a sound understanding of the different project phases and activities and has practical knowledge of end-to- end lifecycle of change and associated toolsets.

Position Accountabilities

Requirements Elicitation, Management and Communication

• Lead a team that works closely with subject matter experts and/or business representatives to analyse and document business needs/requirements and outcomes
• Work closely with Product Owners to analyse the business domain, unpack business requirements into user stories and size stories for delivery
• Facilitate working sessions and/or workshops with stakeholders across all levels of the business

Project and Risk Management

• Work with a multi-skilled team to facilitate the successful implementation of the project;
• Maintain business requirements up to date
• Raise and manage project change requests
• Ensure all project-related risks are raised, discussed and tracked within the agreed risk management framework
• Assess business impact and conduct risk assessment, including identification of measures aimed at mitigating these risks

Stakeholder and Change Management

• Make recommendations for operational and system enhancements to foster business efficiency and effectiveness
• Ensure compliance with industry legal and regulatory requirements, project management and business analysis frameworks
• Communicate effectively with Business Partners and Technology stakeholders, ensuring a high level of consultation on systems and business practices

Leadership

• In addition to performing many business analyst activities, a lead will coordinate and oversee the work of the other Business Analysts in the Product Hub
• Part of leading multiple business analysts also means mentoring the junior and mid-level business analysts
• As a senior-level BA, you will be viewed as an expert on the process and best practices for conducting requirements practices in your organisation
• Will be responsible for performance management and coaching of the business analysts in the Product Hub
• Take all reasonable directions from leaders to comply with the organisation’s workplace health & safety (WHS) protocols. WHS is everyone’s responsibility

What experience you’ll bring

Qualifications and Experience

• Minimum of 5 years’ experience in business or product analysis
• Understanding of software development methodologies (AGILE, Waterfall)

• Track record of mentoring other Business Analysts
• Experience in preparing formal documentation, such as business requirements, reports, etc
• Demonstrated ability to work autonomously, as well as the ability to meet tight deadlines in a complex and rapidly changing environment
• Demonstrated ability to multi task and work on multiple projects in a fast-paced/ dynamic environment
• Experienced JIRA and Confluence user (defect reporting and management tools)
• Demonstrated analytical, reasoning and problem-solving skills and abilities
• A “can do”, team focused attitude
• Demonstrated excellent time-management skills
• Ability to adapt rapidly to new concepts
• High level of IT literacy and demonstrated ability to learn new systems
• Working knowledge of common application software, e.g. MS Office suite
• One of the following qualifications would be highly regarded, but not essential: Certified Business Analysis Professional (CCBA) by IIBA; Project Management certification (PMP, Prince2 or similar); Tertiary qualifications in IT or business-related discipline
• Well-developed and demonstrated understanding of the legislative, regulatory and compliance obligations to operate in the FSR environment
• Strong understanding of the insurance domain and principles
• Experience with the UAT process and knowledge of testing methodologies, strategies, plans and test cases
• Experience with the use of LLMs within the business analysis space to accelerate the discovery and synthesis of outputs

Location: Toowong or Kawana

This role is available at any of our Brisbane and Sunshine Coast locations providing flexibility to choose the office that suits you. Our Toowong office is close to the city with easy public transport and parking options, while our Kawana office is on the edge of Lake Kawana and only a five-minute drive to the closest beach.
