Job summary

Biosis Australia is seeking an experienced Senior Botanist to join our Ecology team for a 12-month maternity leave cover position with strong potential for ongoing work across NSW offices, including Sydney, Western Sydney, Wollongong, Newcastle or Albury.

You will lead ecological assessments, environmental approvals and conservation planning, delivering high-quality reports and expert advice on biodiversity legislation across New South Wales.

Qualifications

• Minimum 5 years of experience in ecological consulting or related field.
• Strong knowledge of Australian ecosystems.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Current and valid driver’s license.

Responsibilities

• Design and lead delivery of ecological survey programs and impact assessments.
• Prepare high-quality technical reports including ecological impact assessments and vegetation mapping.
• Lead multi-disciplinary teams to deliver complex projects.
• Provide expert advice on NSW and Commonwealth biodiversity legislation.
• Support junior staff in fieldwork, data analysis and reporting.
• Liaise with clients, regulators and stakeholders to ensure project delivery.

Biosis Australia is growing, and we'd love you to be part of it!

We are looking for an experienced and passionate Senior Botanist to join our Ecology team for a 12-month maternity leave cover position, with strong potential for ongoing role at one of our NSW offices, including Sydney, Western Sydney, Wollongong, Newcastle or Albury. The successful candidate will lead and deliver ecological assessments, environmental approvals and contribute to conservation planning, and provide expert advice on a range of projects in New South Wales.

Key responsibilities

• Design and lead delivery of ecological survey programs and impact assessment tailored to client needs.
• Prepare high-quality technical reports, including ecological impact assessment, vegetation mapping, and offsets advice and strategy.
• Lead multi-disciplinary teams to deliver complex projects.
• Provide expert advice on New South Wales and Commonwealth biodiversity legislation.
• Support junior staff in fieldwork, data analysis, and reporting.
• Liaise with clients, regulators, and stakeholders to ensure project delivery aligns with client and regulator needs.
• Prepare project proposals and tender submissions.
• Assist in the preparation of expert evidence and (depending on experience) present evidence.
• Build and maintain relationships with clients, regulators, industry bodies and researchers.

To be successful in this role, you will need

• Tertiary qualifications in botany, ecology, environmental science, or a related discipline.
• Minimum 5 years of experience in ecological consulting or a related field.
• BAM accreditation or working knowledge of its application is preferred.
• Demonstrated expertise in Australian ecosystems.
• Strong understanding of environmental legislation and NSW policy framework.
• Proven ability to manage multiple projects and deliver high-quality reports on time and within budget.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• A current and valid driver's licence.
