Uptick in Melbourne is seeking a senior backend engineer to design and evolve backend systems powering our suite of AI-driven products. You will own code quality and direction, work across established platforms and new initiatives, and collaborate with AI-assisted workflows using Claude.

The role emphasizes ownership, architecture, and high-performance Python development, with hybrid work from our Melbourne office and room to grow into senior technical leadership.

Qualifications

• Strong experience with Python in web development, not just scripting.
• Experience with Django preferred; Flask/FastAPI also considered.
• Full stack capability with TypeScript/React is a plus.
• Comfortable with AI-assisted development tools as part of workflow.
• Ability to multi-task, organise, prioritise across concurrent projects.

Responsibilities

• Design and build backend systems in Python.
• Develop and support web applications, APIs, database integration.
• Contribute to AI-driven initiatives, including scheduling and inbox automation.
• Use Claude as core tool while owning code.
• Coordinate cross-functional to meet objectives and quality standards.
• Participate in code reviews and engineering standards.
• Take on architectural/refactoring work to improve long-term health.
