Job summary

IP Australia invites a Senior Backend / AI / ML Software Engineer to join its AI Factory. You will deliver production capabilities at the intersection of software, AI and data science, collaborating with ML engineers, scientists and business analysts in a government environment.

The role emphasizes Python and AWS, serverless architectures, IaC with AWS CDK, and modern DevOps practices. Hybrid work from Canberra with occasional travel; security clearance baseline required.

Qualifications

• Must have strong Python experience and AWS serverless development
• Experience with Infrastructure-as-Code (AWS CDK)
• CI/CD experience using AWS CodePipeline or similar
• DevOps practices and delivering production-grade software
• Experience working in multidisciplinary software development teams
• Government or public sector collaboration experience (advantage)

Responsibilities

• Develop and deliver software components alongside data scientists and ML engineers
• Build and maintain production capabilities within a multidisciplinary Agile team
• Deliver Proofs of Concept with Subject Matter Experts
• Develop solutions using AWS, particularly serverless technologies
• Contribute to the responsible application of AI and emerging technologies
• Maintain and continuously improve existing production systems
• Contribute to technical documentation, code quality and development practices
