Job summary

Byron Bay Van Fitouts in Tyagarah, NSW, is seeking a Lead Automotive Technician / Campervan Builder to take technical ownership of mechanical work across our custom projects. This is a mechanic-first role with valued 12V, carpentry or cabinetry skills.

You will diagnose, service vans, install 12V and assist with fabrication, while leading by example and supporting workshop systems. Role is on-site, ABN contractor, with immediate project start and a rate of $40–$50 per hour.

Qualifications

• Must hold a relevant Australian automotive trade qualification.
• Current NSW Motor Vehicle Tradesperson Certificate and any required contracting licences.
• Active ABN and contractor insurance.
• Own tools and reliable transport.
• Australian work rights; sponsorship not available for this contractor position.
• Ability to relocate within Byron Bay area or nearby.
• Commitment to at least 12 months if projects and working relationship are mutually suitable.

Responsibilities

• Diagnose, service and repair vans and light vehicles.
• Perform mechanical inspections, fault-finding and quality checks.
• Install vehicle accessories and 12V systems within your qualifications.
• Assist with campervan fabrication, fit-out, cabinetry and finishing where able.
• Plan project stages, identify parts and materials, and communicate progress clearly.
• Maintain high standards of safety, workmanship and workshop organisation.
• Help guide other tradespeople and improve workflow, quality control and operations.
