Job summary

Hitachi Rail is seeking a Senior Automation Software Engineer for Brisbane, Australia. The role focuses on designing and implementing safe, real-time software components in OO languages, with emphasis on documentation and compliance to EN 50128.

The candidate will develop component software, write test scripts in Python, and collaborate across teams to ensure high-quality project delivery in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in software engineering, computer science, information technology or equivalent.
• At least 5 years' experience in software development with design documentation.
• Experience with enterprise integration patterns and OO design.
• Experience in C++, Java or similar OO languages; XML/XSLT/MySQL; unit testing.
• Experience writing software requirements and modelling with UML/SysML.

Responsibilities

• Analyze component requirements and design per EN 50128 SIL 0.
• Design architecture and specifications for components.
• Write interface specifications and document message formats.
• Develop component software following coding standards.
• Develop Python test scripts using in-house test framework.
• Ensure safety-related software complies with standards and processes.
