Job summary

Spectrum Automation in Melbourne is seeking an experienced Senior Automation Engineer to own projects from concept through commissioning, working closely with clients to deliver high-quality automation solutions. You will design, develop, commission and support PLC, SCADA and OT systems, provide technical guidance during pre-sales, and produce functional descriptions and commissioning documentation.

Qualifications

• Degree in engineering (Electrical, Mechatronics, Automation or similar).
• Proven experience in automation and control system design.
• Strong experience with Ignition SCADA and OT networks (preferred).
• Exposure to PLC platforms, industrial networks, and system integration.
• Experience in Systems Integrator, OEM, or End User environments.
• Strong communication, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills.
• Commitment to safety, quality, and teamwork.

Responsibilities

• Deliver solutions that improve operational efficiency, reliability, and safety.

About the Opportunity:

We're looking for an experienced Senior Automation Engineer to join our Melbourne team. This is a hands-on role where you'll take ownership of projects from concept through to commissioning while working closely with clients to deliver high-quality automation solutions.

In this role you will:

Design, develop, commission and support PLC, SCADA and OT Systems.

Work directly with customers to understand requirements and develop innovative automation solutions.

Deliver projects from specification through to commissioning and ongoing support.

Provide technical guidance during the pre-sales process.

Prepare technical documentation including functional descriptions, user manuals and commissioning documentation.

Support continuous improvement across engineering standards and project delivery.

What We're Looking For:

We're interested in speaking with people who have:

A Degree in Engineering (Electrical, Mechatronics, Automation, or similar)

Proven experience in automation and control system design

Strong experience with Ignition SCADA and OT Networks (preferred)

Exposure to PLC platforms, industrial networks, and system integration

Experience working within a Systems Integrator, OEM, or End User environment
