Job summary

Horizon Nexus Partners in Melbourne is seeking a Senior Auditor to lead audit engagements, deliver high-quality financial statements and provide guidance to junior staff. You will interface with managers and partners, identify value-added opportunities, and uphold professional standards on diverse client portfolios.

The role emphasises technical proficiency, commercial acumen, and the ability to drive quality outcomes in a collaborative, fast-growing firm.

Qualifications

• Five or more years’ experience in external audit within a public practice environment.
• Strong knowledge of Australian Accounting Standards and Australian Auditing Standards.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with strong commercial acumen.
• Outstanding communication and relationship-building abilities.

Responsibilities

• Lead and deliver audit engagements from planning through to completion.
• Prepare and review financial statements and audit documentation.
• Build strong relationships with clients and be a trusted point of contact.
• Identify accounting issues, assess commercial implications and develop practical solutions.
• Mentor, coach and review the work of junior team members.
• Ensure audit files comply with firm quality standards and documentation requirements.

The Opportunity

As a Senior Auditor, you'll play a key role in delivering high-quality audit and advisory services across a diverse client portfolio. You'll lead audit engagements from planning through to completion, work closely with Managers and Partners, and provide guidance and coaching to junior team members.

This is more than a compliance-focused role- you'll be encouraged to think commercially, identify opportunities to add value for clients, and contribute to building long-term trusted relationships.

What You'll Be Doing

• Lead and deliver audit engagements from planning through to completion.
• Prepare and review financial statements and audit documentation.
• Build strong relationships with clients and become a trusted point of contact throughout engagements.
• Identify accounting issues, assess commercial implications and develop practical solutions.
• Resolve accounting discrepancies and provide technical guidance where required.
• Deliver high-quality work within agreed budgets and timeframes.
• Keep Managers and Partners informed of client developments, risks and opportunities.
• Ensure audit files comply with firm quality standards and documentation requirements.
• Mentor, coach and review the work of junior team members, supporting their professional development.
• Contribute to a collaborative, high-performing team environment.

About You

You’ll be someone who enjoys taking ownership, thrives in a collaborative environment and is passionate about delivering exceptional client outcomes.

You’ll also bring:

• A tertiary qualification in Accounting, Commerce or Business.
• CA or CPA qualification (or near completion).
• Around five or more years’ experience in external audit within a public practice environment.
• Strong knowledge of Australian Accounting Standards and Australian Auditing Standards.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with strong commercial acumen.
• Outstanding communication and relationship-building abilities.
• Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple engagements simultaneously.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, and the ability to quickly learn new audit technologies and systems.
