Job summary

Australia Zoo is seeking a Senior Audio Visual Technician to join the Audio Visual team in a Full Time capacity. You will oversee operation, maintenance, installation and technical support of AV systems across the organisation, with a focus on live events, shows and presentations.

Qualifications

• Demonstrated experience as an AV Technician or in a similar technical role.
• Strong practical knowledge of professional AV systems and equipment.
• Demonstrated experience with live audio, vision and event production.
• Experience with mixing consoles, microphones, wireless systems and audio processing.
• Experience with cameras, vision systems, displays and video signal distribution.
• Demonstrated experience with AV setup, installation, maintenance and fault finding.
• Strong technical troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work independently and make sound technical decisions in live environments.
• Good understanding of video production and editing.
• Working knowledge of Adobe Premiere Pro.

Responsibilities

AV & Events

• Set up, operate and pack down AV systems for shows, presentations, events and functions.

• Operate live audio and vision systems, including mixing consoles, microphones, cameras and display systems.

• Support live-streamed events and productions.

• Assess event and production requirements and determine appropriate technical solutions.

• Conduct system testing and pre-event checks.

• Provide technical support during live events and resolve issues with minimal disruption.

• Liaise with internal departments, contractors and suppliers on technical requirements.

Audio & Vision Systems

• Configure and operate professional audio systems, including mixing consoles, microphones, processors and wireless systems.

• Manage wireless frequency coordination and basic RF troubleshooting.

• Operate live vision systems, camera systems, vision switching and presentation equipment.

• Configure and maintain video systems and associated equipment.

• Sound of understanding of networked AV, configuration, IP based infrastructure and protocols.

• Troubleshoot audio, video, signal and connectivity issues.

• Assist with the design and configuration of AV systems for different applications.

Installation, Maintenance & Technical Support

• Install, configure, test and maintain fixed and temporary AV systems.

• Undertake preventative maintenance, equipment testing and basic repairs.

• Maintain fixed PA systems, speakers, amplifiers, microphones, displays, cameras and associated equipment.

• Diagnose faults and determine appropriate repair or escalation requirements.

• Assist with equipment upgrades, installations and system commissioning.

• Maintain equipment, technical documentation and system records.

• Ensure AV equipment is secure, organised, serviceable and operational.

Video Production & Content Support

• Provide technical support for video production and content creation activities.

• Operate cameras and associated recording equipment.

• Assist with studio, field and location filming.

• Assist with audio recording and voice-over requirements.

• Undertake basic audio editing in post-production.

• Undertake basic video editing and post-production using Adobe Premiere Pro where required.

• Assist with content for YouTube, social media, television, media and internal communications.

• Provide technical AV support for production and filming projects.

Technical Responsibilities

• Provide technical guidance and support to junior AV team members.

• Assist with training and knowledge sharing within the team.

• Take ownership of assigned technical projects and ensure they are completed to the required standard.

• Contribute to AV procedures, technical standards and improved workflows.

• Manage AV technical logbooks and reports.

• Produce AV schematics and drawings based on new and upgraded systems.

• Assist the AV & Video Production Manager with equipment upgrades, technical projects and system improvements.

• Provide technical advice and support to other departments as required.

• Maintain current knowledge of AV technology and industry practices.

• Comply with all safety requirements, organisational policies and procedures.

• Perform other duties consistent with the position as reasonably directed.

Essential Criteria

• Demonstrated experience as an AV Technician or in a similar technical role.

• Strong practical knowledge of professional AV systems and equipment.

• Demonstrated experience with live audio, vision and event production.

• Experience with mixing consoles, microphones, wireless systems and audio processing.

• Experience with cameras, vision systems, displays and video signal distribution.

• Demonstrated experience with AV setup, installation, maintenance and fault finding.

• Strong technical troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.

• Ability to work independently and make sound technical decisions in live environments.

• Good understanding of video production and editing.

• Working knowledge of Adobe Premiere Pro.

• Strong organisational and communication skills.

• Ability to work safely with AV and electrical equipment.

• Availability to work weekends, public holidays and school holidays as required.

Preferred Criteria

• EWPA licence, working at heights and/or other relevant certification.

• Relevant qualification or training in AV, sound, broadcast, electronics, electrical or entertainment technology.

• Post-production audio mixing and mastering experience.

• Experience with professional digital audio systems and wireless/RF equipment.

• Experience with fixed PA systems and AV installations.

• Experience with video distribution, signal conversion or AV-over-IP systems.

• Experience with live streaming and broadcast workflows.

• Experience with live vision production and remote camera operation.

• Experience working with contractors or external suppliers.

• Knowledge of Adobe After Effects and Photoshop.
