Lander & Rogers is a leading Australian private practice with offices nationwide, seeking a senior real estate lawyer to work closely with Partners on major transactions, developments and leasing. The role supports major corporate and government clients across Australia’s property, infrastructure and development sectors.

With a growing practice, you will take on meaningful responsibility, mentor junior lawyers, and contribute to client delivery, due diligence and advisory work while using

Qualifications

  • 6+ years PAE in real estate law
  • Experience in sales, acquisitions and leasing of commercial property
  • Current NSW practising certificate

About the Role

You’ll work closely with the Partners on high-end, complex real estate matters, including large capital transactions, major property developments and complex leasing. The team advises major corporate and government clients across some of Australia’s most significant property, infrastructure and development matters.

With the practice continuing to grow, this is an opportunity to work closely with the Partners, take on meaningful responsibility and contribute to the continued growth of the practice.

Responsibilities
  • End to end file management of appropriate real estate and project transactional matters under the supervision of a senior practitioner, including:
  • the real estate aspects of major projects, such as linear infrastructure projects involving roads, railways, pipelines or transmission lines;
  • sales and purchases of land across all land asset classes;
  • property and project development and delivery matters, including development agreements, development management agreements, project development agreements and project delivery agreements;
  • complex agreement for lease and/or lease transactions involving commercial, industrial, retail and agricultural land;
  • simple lease transactions involving leases of commercial offices and retail premises;
  • asset management work associated with client lease portfolios such as renewals, variations, assignments and surrenders of lease; and
  • land subdivisions, consolidations, easements and covenants
  • advising clients on an appropriate structure for their transaction;
  • drafting documents or reviewing documents prepared by other firms;
  • advising clients on the documents and amending and negotiating them as required;
  • liaising with clients, counterparties' lawyer, internal stakeholders and other practice groups where required; and
  • the use of appropriate internal technological solutions, such as document automation software, online data rooms, status reporting software and approved artificial intelligence platforms
  • Working in teams on due diligence and drafting due diligence reports for large real estate acquisitions or the real estate aspects of merger and acquisition transactions
  • Working with lawyers from the construction and environment and planning sub‑teams within the Real Estate & Projects group to support those teams with the real estate aspects of their matters
  • Undertaking legal research
  • Drafting formal advices to clients by email, by memorandum or by letter
  • Attending to registration of documents and general land titles enquiries
  • Working in partnership with senior practitioners and other team members
  • Assisting graduates and seasonal clerks throughout their rotations
  • Building client relationships at a corresponding level
  • Attending internal and external training and development sessions
  • Assisting senior practitioners to prepare responses to requests from clients for a fee proposal or a capability statement
  • Assisting senior practitioners to prepare and present internal continuing legal education presentations
  • Assisting senior practitioners to prepare external presentations
About You
  • Suitable applicants will be 6+ years PAE
  • Training and experience gained in a mid/top-tier law firm or in-house is preferred
  • A current practising certificate for NSW
  • Relevant front‑end experience, at a minimum in sales and acquisitions and leasing of commercial property
  • Experience in one or more Australian jurisdictions, will be viewed favourably
  • Proven decision making and problem‑solving ability
  • Demonstrated time management and organisational skills
  • An ability to influence and manage conflict with a diplomatic and consultative approach
  • Demonstrate the ability to build strong working relationships
  • Strong team collaboration skills with an ability to lead by example
  • A passion for providing a high level of customer service
  • Strong attention to detail
  • A desire to learn and develop new skills
