Job summary

WSP Australia is seeking a Senior/Associate Engineer - Traction Power to join our Rail Electrification team across Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Perth. You will lead the design and delivery of complex traction power systems from business case through to construction documentation, mentoring graduates and supporting business development.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical or Power Engineering.
• 6 to 15+ years' experience in traction power engineering design.
• Strong experience in traction power and HV supply system design.
• Experience preparing engineering drawings, calculations, technical reports and design documentation.
• Experience in traction power substations and associated electrical infrastructure.
• Knowledge of HV and LV Earthing & Bonding design principles.
• Strong understanding of IEC, EN, ASA, AS and rail industry standards.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
• The ability to work autonomously whilst managing multiple priorities and project deliverables.

Responsibilities

• Leading traction power projects from concept and feasibility through AFC/IFC delivery.
• Delivering AC and DC traction power design solutions for major rail infrastructure projects.
• Conducting and reviewing technical reports, feasibility studies and option assessments.
• Undertaking and reviewing power system studies, including protection studies and electrical calculations.
• Supporting HV/LV Earthing & Bonding and earth grid design activities.
• Managing design packages and coordinating multidisciplinary project interfaces.
• Working closely with clients to understand requirements and develop technical solutions.
• Contributing to tenders, proposals and business development.
• Mentoring graduates and developing engineers within the rail electrification team.

At WSP, we're delivering some of Australia's most significant transport infrastructure projects. As our rail portfolio continues to grow, we're looking for an experienced Senior/Associate Engineer - Traction Power to join our specialist Rail Electrification team.

This is an opportunity to work alongside industry-recognised experts, leading the design and delivery of complex traction power systems from business case development through to detailed design and construction documentation. You'll play a key role in helping clients solve complex engineering challenges across the full asset lifecycle while mentoring the next generation of rail engineers.

What you'll do

Reporting to the Rail Electrification leadership team, you'll provide technical leadership across a diverse portfolio of rail infrastructure projects by:

• Leading and coordinating traction power projects from concept and feasibility through to AFC/IFC delivery.
• Delivering AC and DC traction power design solutions for major rail infrastructure projects.
• Conducting and reviewing technical reports, feasibility studies and option assessments.
• Undertaking and reviewing power system studies, including protection studies and electrical calculations.
• Supporting High Voltage and Low Voltage Earthing & Bonding and earth grid design activities.
• Managing design packages and coordinating multidisciplinary project interfaces.
• Working closely with clients to understand project requirements and develop technical solutions.
• Contributing to tenders, proposals and business development activities.
• Building and maintaining strong client and stakeholder relationships.
• Mentoring graduate and developing engineers while supporting the growth of the broader rail electrification team.

About you

You'll be an experienced traction power engineer who enjoys solving complex technical problems and building trusted relationships with clients and colleagues alike.

You’ll bring:

• A Bachelor's degree in Electrical or Power Engineering.
• 6 to 15+ years' experience in traction power engineering design.
• Strong experience in traction power and HV supply system design.
• Demonstrated experience preparing engineering drawings, calculations, technical reports and design documentation.
• Experience in traction power substations and associated electrical infrastructure.
• Knowledge of HV and LV Earthing & Bonding design principles.
• Strong understanding of relevant IEC, EN, ASA, AS and rail industry standards.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
• The ability to work autonomously whilst managing multiple priorities and project deliverables.

Desirable experience

We’d be particularly interested in candidates with:

• Sydney Trains and/or Transport for NSW project experience (preferred, not essential).
• Exposure to rail electrification construction, testing or commissioning activities.
• Experience with software such as DIgSILENT-PowerFactory, CDEGS, ETAP, PSCAD, MATLAB, DIALux, OpenTrack and OpenPowerNet.
• Chartered status or progress towards professional accreditation.
