Job summary

The Australian Institute of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Studies in Canberra seeks a Collections Specialist who identifies, assesses, describes and processes the AIATSIS Collection to improve its discoverability and accessibility on online discovery platforms.

You will oversee archival description, metadata enhancement, and support the development of workflows and reporting to optimise collection management systems and user experience across Maraga and Mparntwe sites.

Responsibilities

• Identify, assess, describe and process the AIATSIS Collection to improve discoverability and accessibility on online discovery platforms.
• Manage collections through a processing and digitisation pipeline to ensure priority materials are available online efficiently.
• Contribute to development of workflows, procedures and reporting; advise on improvement of collection management systems and online discovery platforms to enhance user experience.
• Undertake archival description and metadata enhancement activities.

Key responsibilities

• The Collections Services Group is responsible for the development, management, preservation and provision of access to the AIATSIS Collection at both Maraga (Canberra) and Mparntwe (Central Australia) sites.
• The position manages collections through a processing and digitisation pipeline, ensuring priority materials are made available online as efficiently as possible.
• The role contributes to the development of workflows, procedures and reporting, and provides advice on the ongoing improvement of collection management systems and online discovery platforms to enhance the user experience.
