Job summary

University of Adelaide is seeking a dedicated animal care professional to support SAiGENCI research at the North Terrace Campus. The role involves daily animal husbandry, welfare monitoring and breeding colony management within Biological Services on a 38-month fixed-term contract.

You will work closely with researchers, technicians and facility users to ensure welfare, compliance and smooth operation of the animal facility, while training staff and maintaining accurate records.

Qualifications

• A tertiary qualification in a relevant field with work experience or an equivalent combination of experience and training.
• Biomedical research animal husbandry, including breeding and SPF practices.
• Technical procedures such as injections, venepuncture, biopsies and post-operative care.
• Familiarity with AEC, IBC and associated facility procedures.
• The ability to create and maintain accurate written and electronic records.
• Work health and safety, infection control, sterilisation and aseptic techniques in animal facilities.
• Support researchers through training in animal handling and facility protocols, while ensuring equipment and supplies are prepared.

Responsibilities

• Support the expanding research programs of SAiGENCI through high-quality daily animal care, welfare monitoring, and breeding colony management.
• Provide dedicated support for SAiGENCI research while contributing to broader facility operation.
• Train researchers in animal handling and facility protocols, ensuring equipment and supplies are ready for operational needs.
