Job summary

The University of Sydney is seeking an Animal Technician to provide husbandry services and ensure animal welfare and regulatory compliance across Camperdown, St Leonards, and other facilities in Sydney. The role covers day-to-day care and maintaining high standards for animal facilities.

You will support researchers and technical staff, maintain records, and participate in an on-call weekend roster while adhering to NSW Animal Research Act and related codes of practice.

Qualifications

• Qualifications in a relevant field or equivalent training/experience.
• Animal handling and care skills of a high standard with SPF principles experience.
• Commitment to animal welfare and compliance with NSW Animal Research Act and regulatory codes.
• Strong record-keeping and attention to detail.
• Willingness to work across Laboratory Animal Services facilities and on-call/weekend roster.

Responsibilities

• Provide sound technical research support and assistance to researchers, students and staff in the facility.
• Maintain accurate and up-to-date animal and facility records.
• Communicate animal welfare concerns promptly and assist in resolving issues as directed.
• Ensure facilities comply with WHS and regulatory requirements.
• Participate in overtime roster for weekend inspections and essential animal husbandry tasks on public holidays.
