Morningstar Australasia Pty Limited is seeking a Senior Analyst for Manager Research in Sydney to assess Australian and global fund managers, conduct due diligence, interview managers, and write research reports. The role involves contributing to thought leadership for clients in Australia and the Asia-Pacific region.

Responsibilities include interviewing managers, producing succinct ratings notes, and collaborating with internal teams to ensure alignment with Morningstar’s investment

Qualifications

  • A passion for investing and helping investors.
  • Proven expertise in fund manager due diligence or security selection.
  • Strong understanding of Australian-based investment managers across equities/fixed income.
  • Able to research multi-asset and unlisted assets (private credit, real estate, infrastructure).
  • Excellent verbal and written communication; strong time management.

Job description

Senior Analyst, Manager Research Morningstar Manager Research has a requirement for a Senior Analyst to join the team in Sydney. The Senior Analyst plays a key role in researching fund managers in both Australian and Global fund markets. The research process involves conducting fund due diligence, interviewing fund managers and writing research reports. In addition, the Senior Analyst will contribute to writing thought leadership pieces for clients both in Australia and the Asia-Pac region.

Job Responsibilities
  • To research and critically assess fund managers and their products that are primarily managed in Australia. Some global fund exposure.
  • To lead fund manager interviews and write succinct and reader-friendly rating notes and research reports.
  • Leverage the manager due diligence experience to make fund recommendations for advice research clients, internal asset management clients (MIM) and external asset management clients (model portfolio providers) that subscribe to our manager research.
  • Collaborate with various internal stakeholders such as the investment management team to ensure client recommendations and deliverables are consistent with Morningstar’s house views and investment principles, as well as with data operations to ensure required data and methodologies are in place to support products.
  • To help shape Morningstar methodologies.
  • Handle ad-hoc client enquiries and undertake other administrative, research and/or analytical work as required.
Qualifications
  • A passion for investing and for helping investors make better investment decisions.
  • At least 10 years of investment-related experience, with a strong background in fund manager due diligence, and / or security selection or investment management.
  • A solid understanding of Australian-based investment managers, with proven expertise across the equities or fixed interest asset classes.
  • Ability to research multi-asset and unlisted assets (private credit, equity, real-estate, infrastructure) would be also highly valued.
  • A keen knowledge of financial markets that has been developed both personally and professionally.
  • Strong quantitative skills with a good grasp of statistics, and familiarity with economics and behavioral finance.
  • Superior verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to think and write creatively.
  • Excellent time management skills.
  • Ability to use own initiative and work unsupervised, with the ability to prioritise effectively and work in a methodical manner to meet deadlines.
  • Proactive in building effective internal and external relationships with key stakeholders and acting as a representative of Morningstar.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Bachelor’s degree; advanced degrees and certifications are desirable.
  • Skilled with PC and mainstream software packages.
  • Experience with Morningstar Direct an advantage.
  • CFA designation is highly valued.
