Job summary

Change Recruitment is helping a growing Australian technology company recruit a Senior AI Product Engineer in Sydney or Melbourne. This hands-on role spans AI and product engineering, shaping architecture for new AI capabilities and translating them into customer experiences.

You’ll work on LLM application architecture, agentic systems, retrieval, context and memory, model evaluation and orchestration, with freedom to experiment and push architectural boundaries.

Qualifications

• Strong software and product engineering fundamentals.
• Commercial experience building production AI/LLM applications.
• Experience with modern LLM architectures and agentic systems.
• Strong Python, TypeScript or similar engineering experience.
• Experience working in a startup or fast-moving product environment.
• The ability to take ambiguous problems from idea through to production.
• Strong communication and product instincts.
• Genuine curiosity around where AI technology is heading.
• Experience with model evaluation, retrieval, fine‑tuning, inference or conversational AI would be valuable.

$170k–$190k + Super + Equity | Sydney or Melbourne | Hybrid

We're working with a growing Australian technology company looking for a Senior AI Product Engineer to join a small, highly technical product team.

This is a hands‑on role for someone who’s gone well beyond basic LLM integrations and has experience building sophisticated AI‑powered products in production.

You’ll work across both AI and product engineering, helping shape the architecture behind new AI capabilities while also owning how those capabilities translate into real customer experiences.

What You’ll Work On

The problems will span areas such as LLM application architecture, agentic systems, retrieval, context and memory, model evaluation, orchestration and emerging AI tooling.

You’ll have significant freedom to experiment with new approaches, challenge existing architecture and introduce technologies you believe can improve the product.

What We’re Looking For

You’ll ideally have:

• Strong software and product engineering fundamentals

• Experience with modern LLM architectures and agentic systems
• Strong Python, TypeScript or similar engineering experience

Experience with areas such as model evaluation, retrieval, fine‑tuning, inference or conversational AI would be valuable, but we’re more interested in the depth of what you’ve built than ticking every technology box.

This would suit someone who is constantly experimenting with AI, enjoys working close to product and wants significant ownership over what gets built next.

There’s also plenty of scope for the role to grow in responsibility as the engineering team expands.
