Job summary

Heidi is hiring a Senior AI Engineer in Melbourne to lead model customization, deployment, and customer delivery. You will own system design and use your experience to drive production AI systems that balance quality, cost, latency, and reliability.

You should have strong software or ML engineering skills and experience with at least two areas of our stack, plus familiarity with open-weight language models and the modern LLM ecosystem. We value clear communication and pragmatic problem solving.

Qualifications

• Strong experience in at least two areas of the stack
• Proven track record building or operating production AI systems
• Solid software or ML engineering skills
• Familiarity with open-weight language models and the modern LLM ecosystem
• Good judgement balancing model quality, cost, latency, and reliability
• Ability to work through ambiguous technical and customer requirements
• Clear communication with technical and non-technical stakeholders

Responsibilities

• Own system design, technical decisions and customer outcomes
• Model customisation: training data, models and training approaches
• Deployment and inference: cloud or on-prem deployments, configurations
• Agent systems: language model workflows, data integration, observability
• Customer delivery: understand requirements and trade-offs, drive production launches
