Job summary

Alignerr is seeking Senior Software Engineers in Sydney to design, build, and scale AI infrastructure powering AI products used by millions. This fully remote hourly contract offers 20–40 hours per week, with high autonomy and ownership over meaningful, scalable systems.

You will work on production-grade software for AI pipelines, APIs, and data services, using Python, TypeScript, or other modern languages, and collaborate with cross-functional teams across research and product management.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of professional software engineering experience.
• Proficiency in at least one modern language: Python, TypeScript/JavaScript, Go, Java or similar.
• Strong understanding of software architecture, design patterns, and system design principles.
• Experience building and deploying backend services, APIs, or data-intensive apps.
• Comfortable with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure) and containerized environments.
• Familiar with Git, CI/CD, and modern development tooling.
• Strong debugging and problem-solving skills; able to navigate ambiguity.
• Excellent written communication; comfortable working async.
• Self-directed and reliable with autonomous time management.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain production-grade software for AI training, evaluation, and deployment pipelines.
• Write clean, well-tested, and performant code in Python, TypeScript, or other modern languages.
• Build and optimize APIs, data pipelines, and backend services at scale.
• Architect solutions balancing delivery speed with long-term maintainability.
• Troubleshoot complex issues across distributed systems and cloud infra.
• Collaborate asynchronously with ML engineers, researchers, and product managers.
• Participate in code reviews and contribute to engineering best practices.
• Work independently on well-scoped projects with meaningful ownership.
